Exactly. The skills challenges from the early 2000's were awesome. They need more of that.

THIS!! DO WANT!

Sign me up. The old position drills, fastest man contests, obstacle courses...that was pretty cool. Let teams - not just stars - compete in these and I'd watch.

Good. The Pro Bowl is a joke. Everyone in the stands booed last year on a first quarter running play because no one tried to pursue the runner!

Replace it with an NFL version of the Slam Dunk contest, three point competition, etc.

The pro bowl game has been a waste for the past few years anyway, especially with players decling to play in it. It's lost it lusters for sometime now.

To piggyback on this, does anyone remember the Battle of the Gridiron Stars show that they used to air on ESPN a few years back during the offseason. That used to be very entertaining. Maybe they can somehow reintroduce that.

I agree

Especially when the 5th or 6th best quarterback in a conference gets designated a "pro bowler" cause of injury or cause a player choses not to go.

Honestly, it was only a matter of time. I haven't watched the Pro Bowl in years. It's a neat idea, but doesn't really work in the NFL. I would support the "Skill challenges" to return instead, however.

I think even with the Pro Bowl gone, the Pro Bowl voting should take place and teams should get released, even if they never actually play the game. Something like "All-AFC team" and "All-NFC team", similar to how they create an All-Pro team each year. That way, players can still be labeled "Pro Bowlers". At the same time, it may also cut down some bias for large-market teams in the voting process, since not as many random fans would be voting.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the NFL is moving toward suspending the Pro Bowl game, as soon as this year.
Per Mort's report, teams would still honor Pro Bowl incentives to avoid a conflict with the NFL Players Association. "There may be no Pro Bowl this year," ESPN's John Clayton said on SportsCenter Thursday. Commissioner Roger Goodell has spoken of eliminating the Pro Bowl game since February. Last year's 59-41 AFC win over the NFC was booed for its lack of intensity.

Whether it's intense or not, I still really like watching the game. I think it would be weird for a sport to not have an all-star game.[/b]

The NHL didn't have an all-star game from 2006-2010 and it didn't bother me one bit. The CFL doesn't have one either but they do elect players to "All-Star Teams".

The point is - I haven't watched the Pro-bowl in years so it wouldn't be weird for me if they didn't have one. I wouldn't even notice. I'm sure the NFL would still have Pro-Bowl voting.

Really the only loser in this is Hawaii. I hope it gets done though - the Pro Bowl is a joke. There are plenty of other things you can do instead.

They should turn it back to the skill competition, fastest 40 yard dash etc.

The game is useless.

Exactly. No one cares about the Pro Bowl, it's not a good game nor even a good show anymore. Plus when players don't want to go they pick alternates, which I never really liked because there should be no alternates.

I like this idea because players will still receieve an all star title, and will get their bonus money from that still. However, there just won't be any game now, which I'm fine with. It's hard in the NFL to do an all star game, it's not like baseball or basketball, you can't have it in the middle of the season.

I am all for having a skills competition though, have it in the Super Bowl city. It would be an even bigger even then.
