I get the idea of guys not being "top ten" while being one of the top ten guys. Because there is a standard that You can compare them to. If you have a weak draft class guys might go in the top 10 that wouldn't in most years. So they wouldn't be a "top 10 guy". But still get drafted there. I think last year this was very true of QBs in last years draft with guys like Ponder, Locker, etc. going higher than they probably graded out.

I'd add that janoris jenkins will almost certainly be there at the packers slot, based on character flags. Also think Lamar Miller is a clear tier 5 guy for me.

What I do want to say about Jenkins is that it only takes one team to dismiss those concerns. I can forgive the negatives I've read about, mostly because the positives I've heard over the past season have vastly outweighed them. From what I can tell, he is actually a very bright young man with good morals who ended up in a couple of wrong-place-wrong-time scenarios when he was in his late teens. If he goes to the right team and stops hanging out with the same people, I think he can be a real good player in this league. I think some team with a top 20 pick very well may have the same opinion on him as I do.

Good post, Cabbage.

People are on fire in here. That was like the fifteenth Top Ten post we've had today.

Exceptional thread. Easily fifteen top-ten posts any other year, but maybe 6-7 I'd categorize as top-ten, I mean 1st tier, in 2012.

I think the GB forum should take it upon ourselves to name draft tiers after women.

Like Andrew Luck could be in the Jessica Biel tier. And Stephen Garcia could be in the Rosie ODonnell tier.

And you'd have your other tiers like an Elizabeth Banks tier (high 2nd?), your Megan Fox tier (clear red flags, but tempting), your Jennifer Aniston tier (Brandon Weeden, Danny Watkins), etc, etc.

I am not usually a Wisconsin homer, but looking at my tier 5

Tier 5
Kevin Zeitler
Vinny Curry
Harrison Smith
Brandon Thompson

I'd have to think that everyone outside of Curry may push the Packers to make a trade up in round 2 if any of these guys drop into the mid 40s, but I have been looking at Zeitler for GB for the last week of so.

Everyone is talking Konz in round 1 and then Jones in round 2, then everyone and their sister in rounds 3+, but to me, Zeitler would be a premium C candidate in round 2. Watching a lot of him, and a good amount of 22s, I see Zeitler as a 10 year starter in the NFL where I see Konz as a premium athlete, but isn't the pre-game prep guy nor does he flash the same ability as Zeitler to simply get nasty and ditch the finesse when needed.

Not sure, but to me, I think that Zeitler could be a surprise pick for Green Bay or he might go far higher than most think.

Would love Zeitler in the tail end of two. Just not sure he will get there. Good football player right there. Think every horse will be in that race also. Hard to pass on a guy like that if "your guy" is not there. For him to be there at the tail end of two that would need to play out more than once. Could happen though. Just don't think I would get my hopes up.

Also, no way in hell Jones is there at the tail end of two. Just no way!

I don't think that he'll get past 45, but I like him leaps and bound better than Jones. I usually go in for the SEC guys up front, but Zeitler has everything that a guy looks for on the inside. I'd deal a mid and a 2 to go get him.

The only bad part is that, you are right, the guy can play them all and in every scheme. He is safe as safe can get and has a Pro Bowl upside. Just maybe not an All Pro upside.

There is a lot more projecting that needs to be done with Jones, no doubt. Still, plays a premium and has huge upside.

Upside is huge, but he got killed against Boise and just watching TV views, I am not sure that I have seen a guy get beat like that as a senior and have the upside realized very quickly.

It appears as if those in tier 5 are vacating. Zeitler and Smith moving up and Curry and Thompson moving down.

Makes things a little simpler.

Thinking about the draft, I always think of things in tiers because information is so limited for non-league folks. I'd assume that actual information is as limited in league, but you get a better feel with more access to film (or some access to film depending on how loose you are with calling YouTube film).

I gathered my top 50 players overall based on a few lists and did my best to split the list into 7 tiers.

Tier 1 - Never going to happen. Certainly gone. (9 players)
Tier 2 - Nearly certain to be gone, but a trade is possible. (7 players)
Tier 3 - Not likely to be there, but could be. (7 players)
Tier 4 - Value fits in Packer's draft range. Positional fit. (9 players)
Tier 5 - Value reach at 28, but would not surprise to see them go there or shortly after. (4 players)
Tier 6 - Not a value or positional fit. (12 players)
Tier 7 - Could be in play for 2nd round choice. (2 players)

Here they are (in no certain order):

Tier 3
Courtney Upshaw
Jonathan Martin
Whitney Mercilus

Tier 4
Nick Perry
Jarel Worthy
Devon Still
Kendall Reyes
Andre Branch
Zach Brown
Peter Konz

Tier 5
Kevin Zietler
Vinny Curry
Harrison Smith
Brandon Thompson

Tier 6
Janoris Jenkins
Cordy Glenn
Stephen Hill
Alston Jeffery
Coby Fleener
Dwayne Allen
Rueben Randle
Mike Adams
Amini Silatolu
Orson Charles
Lavonte David

Tier 7
Lamar Miller
Doug Martin

The thing that I watch for on draft day is how many guys from Tier 6 start leapfrogging to be picked before the Packers' choice. Once those guys start going, tier 3 guys begin to drop. That is when a trade could go down (also if tier 3 & 4 go before tier 2, but that is a bigger move) and/or when value players begin to drop.

If you get a chance to comment, please do or, better yet, post your own.

After #25

With Ingram gone, no need to move up.
