Tiny. Not a fan of tiny safeties tbh. Wouldn't count on Minnfield, I've heard he's got some pretty balky knees.

I know people are going to grill me for saying this but Im not opposed to trading a low pick for McCoy if one of our QBs isn't on the board

Agreed. Have him go to QB school for a while, make sure Harrell never sees the field, trade him 3 years down the line to the Saints.

Didn't want to make a new thread, but how do you all grade each first round pick?

Here's mine, seperated by the good players and fits, the bad players or fits, and the teams that got a good player or fit at the wrong price:

The Good (18,):
1. Colts: Andrew Luck - Obvi lol
3. Browns: Trent Richardson - They didn't give up much to move up, and they had to secure the third best player in the draft.
5. Jaguars: Justin Blackmon - They moved up because they had to. He has a high ceiling, not Calvin high, but high nonetheless.
9. Panthers: Luke Kuechley - Great value pick on a safe player.
10. Bills: Stephon Gilmore - some say it's too early, but a corner like him completes a rebuilt defense.
11. Cheifs: Dontari Poe - Crennel is a good coach who can turn him into a star
12. Eagles: Fletcher Cox - I'm usually against a trade up but this was too great of value
13. Cards: Michael Floyd - Larry needed someone, anyone
14. Rams: Michael Brockers - The potential is really high. By moving down from 2 to 14 they added 2 extra first rounders and 2 extra second rounders. Woah mama.
18. Chargers: Melvin Ingram - They get a bonafied top ten talent at 18. I hate them for taking him from me.
21. Pats: Chandler Jones - Shows commitment to their scheme. They had enough picks that a trade up was wise.
23. Lions: Riley Reiff - Great value and need filled. I hate it.
24. Steelers: David DeCastro - Same as Lions, great value and need.
25. Patriots: Donta Hightower - Again, shows commitment to their defensive scheme. Great fit.
27. Bengals: Kevin Zeitler - Not far off from DeCastro in talent, and they manage to aquire more picks in the process of getting him. Wise.
28. Packers: Nick Perry - Fills need, has massive upside, should be able to interact with Clay well.
30. 49ers: AJ Jenkins - big time player who was undervalued by many evaluators, he'll be a good one.
31. Bucs: Doug Martin - they move down to move up for this guy before the Giants can nab him, very complete back who won't be a liability.

The Bad (9):
4. Vikings: Matt Kalil - I think he'll be a great tackle, which is why monetarily he will be a pain in the arse for this team in the near future because elite tackles cost too much money and have minimal impact on offenses.
7. Bucs: Mark Barron - I just don't see the ball skills that justify the selection. Players like this are dying out in the league.
8. Miami: Ryan Tannehill - A late second round prospect, Miami reached big time for a 24 year old project player.
15. Seattle: Bruce Irvin - Red flags everywhere, and they aren't the "kid made a mistake" kind, but the "deep rooted issues" variety.
16. Jets: Quinton Coples - Not a great fit. Not a great motor. Not sure what the Jets saw.
17. Bengals: Dre Kirkpatrick - I feel like his red flags were more concerning than Janoris Jenkins'. Add that to the fact that Jenkins is a better player and that Kirkpatrick had a poor combine, and this pick is high risk.
19. Bears: Shea McClellan - Just not a good fit at all.
20. Titans: Kendall Wright - Considering the amount of needs the Titans have, this was a bit of an unnecessary pick. Hard to believe he was tops on someones board at this point.
32. Giants: David Wilson - Wilson is part of about ten running backs or so who make up the "guys who aren't Richardson or Martin". Taking one of those guys in the first is poor value.

The Ugly (5):
2. Redskins: Robert Griffin - Great player, but they payed way to much to obtain him. Three firsts could have gone a long way towards rebuilding a franchise.
6. Cowboys: Morris Claibourne - They have Carr and Jenkins already, and used their first two picks to add to a position they don't need?
22. Browns: Brandon Weeden - He may end up being a good player, but you have to believe that a first rounder on a player who is done with physical growth and who wasn't the best at his position regardless is a big mistake.
26. Texans: Whitney Mercilus - I think he will end up being fine, but Barwin and Reed could hold that position down. Considering the areas the Texans could have improved at the selection, this was a big missed opportunity.
29. Vikings: Harrison Smith - He would have likely been available at their later pick. No need to move up for him, they spent too much.

Here is my grades. Not sure how you can justify RGIII as a bad pick. Or the Claiborne pick.

I don't think they're bad. Just they spent wayyyy too much to get them.

With the Texans does anyone think they might move Reed inside?

I get a kick out of everyone bashing the Bruce Irvin pick, we were trying to move up to get him, but Arizona and St. Louis wouldn't budge. Kind of ran into a road-block with St. Louis directly targeting Brockers, Arizona being locked into Floyd, and Seattle locked into Irvin. So we just stayed put and waited for either Ingram to fall further, or take Nick Perry.

This second round is going to be VERY interesting. Can't wait to see if we make a move early at the top of the round which is a very real possibility.

How can you even say that? What basis was this statement made off of?

Also, just reviewed your grades, CWood. Disagreed on a couple, as I thought Zeitler was genius by the Bengals in particular. I also like the Poe pick for the very reasons you gave for his potential.

Found this, thought I would share.

Quote:
WR A.J. Jenkins' first significant purchase as a NFL player will not be something he's dreamed about. Instead, he'll be footing the bill for a new bathroom door at his mom's house in Jacksonville. His cousin literally broke down the door to get Jenkins his cell phone when the 49ers called Thursday night.

The question is pose to you is the difference between DeCastro and Zeitler worthy of a third round pick? Because I've got a much higher grade on DeCastro than I do on Zeitler. Not to mention, I've got a higher grade on him at center than I do at guard. It was just poor value for what I had on my board.

As for the Poe pick, it was about as obvious as the sun is bright. Scott Pioli has a habit of bringing in the guy he picks with his first pick, and this is the fourth year in a row he's done it. The only other players not named Andrew Luck that fit the bill were Michael Brockers and Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill already went off the board, and the Chiefs already have two pretty decent five techniques. While Poe has massive upside, he's also got a low floor.

I think it might be worth a third, actually. They can get a pretty good player with that pick. DeCastro is much better, but the difference between All-Pro and Very Good at guard just doesn't have a major impact on an offense. It could also save them money long term, as DeCastro may be looking for the equivilent of Nicks money while Zeitler may be looking for the equivalent of Grubbs.

I do agree about Poe's floor. With that defensive staff though, I think he has a solid chance at becoming a pretty good player.
