I don't know if this needed its own thread, but
I posted in the draft thread last night about seeing DD's
highlights and noticed him playing RG.

Did we draft him to play RG or LG? The analysts
All say he's the best pulling guard and we used Kemo
To pull from left to right all the time.

Either way, I think we got one of the steals
of this draft!

it doesnt matter to me where they put him at as long as hes starting. LG or RG doesnt matter. Hes an upgrade over who we have already. Decastro a Steeler am i'm still dreaming this.

Tomlin at the presser:

Quote:
Is he a right or left guard?

MT: He is a right guard. That’s what he has played at Stanford. We are going to work to put our best people on the field and he will be a candidate within that group, obviously. It was just a fun evaluation. He played right guard in Stanford’s offense and everything we would ask him to do you saw him do at Stanford, whether it was pulling or the pass-pro in the play-action game. Like Kevin said earlier, a large portion of their run-game went behind him. He made it a fun study. He is just a solid player and prospect in all areas.

Does this mean he will stay at RG? Who knows. But I'll just settle for having on the O-line for now.

If he lines up RG than i dont see Foster moving over .It would be Legursky ... Its very possible we go after another guard 2nd or 3rd .. or even better OG/OC . eventually moving Pouncey to guard ...

Why would we move our Pro Bowl Center to OG? Making 2 holes isn't the best of ideas.

Why would we move a Pro Bowler from his current position to replace him with someone of lower quality? I am fine with drafting another G somewhere in the draft, but to play G, not C.

Well he's used to playing on the right side, I think it's a good fit.

Plus the Steelers have a huge hole in right guard. Legursky is a terrible right guard, for some reason he can only play the left guard position. And there isn't any other decent guards on the roster.

I'd start Decastro at LG and Ramon Foster at RG. I'm willing to bet the FO isn't thinking like me, though.

Tomlin was asked if DeCastro was a left guard or right guard, Tomlin said he IS a right guard.

It's a true statement but it doesn't mean DeCastro will STAY a RG. I'd put him at LG and keep Foster at RG.

The Steelers are thin at guard. Doug Legursky and Ramon Foster ended the season as their two starters and Trai Essex was re-signed as their lone veteran backup. While DeCastro played exclusively on the right at Stanford, Tomlin said it wouldn't limit him with the Steelers.

Tomlin also said the bolded. Don't look to much into it.

I think he will give these guys an opportunity to compete for the starting spots. They will probably try him in both Guard spots. If he can prove he can play the Left side better than his competition, then the spot will be his.

I certainly wouldnt do it if it meant making a another hole , But if Peter Kuhn was available i would do it .. imagine to of the best pulling guards in the NFL ...

all steelers fans know that they have the left guard pull a lot...I would say Foster plays RG and DeCastro at LG, however, who really cares....as long as he becomes what everyone expects of him...our oline on paper so far is becoming much more respectable...especially if Starks comes back as fast as he thinks....perhaps a preview:

Likely Starting Lineup going into camp
LT: Gilbert
LG: DeCastro
C: Pouncey
RG: Foster
RT: Colon

If I were calling the shots

LT: Starks
LG: DeCastro
C: Pouncey
RG: Foster
RT: Gilbert

The problem with that is, we don't know how long it would take for Decastro to adjust to being a left guard. Just because he's a great player doesn't you can just put him somewhere and he'll be great. He's played right guard since his freshman year of high school.

Foster isn't that much better, if better at all, at right guard and Legs is at left guard.

There's a bunch of variables that they have to work out in camp before making a decision.

Depends on how Haley alters the running schemes.

I'm sure he plays whichever position they choose to be the dominant "pulling" guard.
