Go to around 0:35..

E-Rod makes 3 great downfield blocks, springing his RB for about a 60-yd TD.

Definitely liking this pick.

His down field blocking looks really solid. He also catches the ball pretty well with his hands when he's on the move, better than I expected. Not a bad spin move on a few plays. Probably offers more in the passing game than Clutts or Spaeth.

…but how is this guy going to get touches of the ball with Marshall, Bennett, Jeffery, Forte, Bush & Davis all in the mix?...he isn't a better blocker than Clutts so I just don't see the value...

Clutts may be the better lead blocker, but the defense KNOWS that's all he's going to do. With Rodriguez, Tice has a guy who is a receiving threat and has some experience lead blocking as well, which could provide run/pass flexibility in two TE sets without showing their hand. That's something you're just not going to get with a combination of Davis/Clutts or Davis/Spaeth.

I really love this pick but I've always thought that the Bears needed a more versatile FB/TE hybrid. You can put this guy all over the field and teams will have to think about him. He'll help Cutler stay off his back immediately because now we can have TWO great short field pass catching backs keeping LB's and ends honest.

Think about it, you can swing Forte one way and Rodriguez the other and defenses HAVE to move guys over to those spots. In the past without good receivers, teams could leave a CB down in the flats to pick these guys up. Now you've got to move an end or OLB there or else you'll be leaving single teams on the outside against Jeffery or Marshall. That also means less double coverage up the middle seams to our TE position, which changes the defenses the Bears can use.

This draft and FA period makes me almost wish we could run Martz's offense again. Teams can line up 8 up front and gang rush Cutler every play because now he has tons of quality hot route/dump off options and enough weapons all over the field to force opponents to respect our offense.

My only hope is that our offense doesn't become too good and too explosive. The Bears strength is and will continue to be our defense, but its an older D that needs a slow deliberate offense to keep them off the field. I still want to see long 9-10 play drives centered around the run with a dynamic passing game with homerun abilities. That allows the D to play to it's strength and the Bears to win by time of possession, which is the best way they can.

I think you've won the most absurd comment contest. Congratulations

I like this pick. He's a good match guy for us. Line him up all over the place. He's a goodenough blocker but add in his speed and who will be covering him his blocking will be better. You have to put an undersized speed defender on him. We can use all the pass catchers we can get.

Nope. He's laying on his back on cloud 9...he should get used to it, because all these great weapons are going to get dusty while he's dumping off screens to Forte due to constant pressure.
I have to agree with you here bb80. I just pray for competition for Webb daily.

I wanna hear Tice's thoughts about this guy. Does he see him as a Kleinsasser type maybe?

Depending on what we do for FA, I kind of look for C. Williams to compete.

With Chilo added we now have, Louis, E.W, Spencer, Chilo, and C.Williams, thats 5 guys for 2 spots

As I stated earlier in this thread, I look forward to what Emery does in and before TC. So far we have only seen him do a draft and bring in a few guys, havent really seen his vision for the team and how he will use these players.

Also, the change from Martz to Tice will be bigger than people think. I think we are in for some surprises in TC

Jay being able to audible will save him a bunch of unnecessary hits too.

This pick is really starting to grow on me and I think it shows that Emery is not drafting out of a draft magazine.

He is looking for creative ways to make our team more dangerous and force people to prepare for our offense.

Rodriguez provides something that we did not have before and adds another type of weapon.

Did anybody else groan when the Chargers took Ladarius Green one pick before us in the fourth round on Saturday?

Yup...I didn't expect us to take a TE, but then we did the next pick so I definitely would have taken Ladarius over Rodriguez.

I liked Green - but he won't be ready to contribute anytime soon - and when he does it will be as strictly a TE. I think the Bears were looking for the versatility as well as a guy who can contribute right away. I can't fault them for the pick - though I, like you, would have wanted Green.

*edited for comma placement so as not to lead CBears019 into believing I was propositioning them...

We already have Kellen Davis in the LaDarius Green mold, we didn't need another. Emery said Tice wanted a TE to stretch the field, that definitely wasn't Green...
