Combine Stats:
Height: 5'10
Weight: 210 pounds
40 Time: 4.43 seconds
Bench Reps: 18
Broad Jump: 10'7
Vertical Jump: 41"
20-Yard Shuttle: 4.31 seconds
3-Cone Drill: 6.97 seconds
Looks a lot like a special teams ace to me. Weight/speed/explosiveness combo is off the charts. Terrific athlete. Doesn't seem to be much production, so I'm guessing he's really more of an athlete than a football player. Probably someone for Danny Smith to take a shot at molding.

Here are some tidbits

There’s also the whole “chip on the shoulder” thing. I don’t think there’s an Iowa player who wants it more in the 2012 draft than Jordan Bernstine. He sees those labels of “injury prone” and “one year wonder” and will do everything in his power to prove the haters wrong. His numbers at the Iowa Pro Day show that. Did I also mention he can fly?
Negatives: Injury history, One year wonder?
All of the talent in the world doesn’t matter if you can’t stay healthy (See: Bob Sanders). Bernstine was plagued by a bad hamstring early in his career, broke his ankle in 2009 and suffered numerous other bumps and bruises along the way. When you spend what seems like majority of your career injured there’s cause for concern whether or not you can make it in the NFL.
There’s also the whole “one year wonder” argument. No one has ever officially explained what a “one year wonder” is but I’ll assume that it has something to do with explaining away an entire season as a fluke. Sounds ridiculous, right? Regardless, many NFL Scouts discredit one year starters as “one year wonders” by claiming that they went all out as a senior and may never show that level of play again. I find it absurd but they’re the professionals.
The Final Word:
Bernstine could’ve quit after suffering multiple injuries throughout his career as a Hawkeye but he didn’t. He kept going and gave us a stellar year in 2011. Now he’s looking to continue his success in the NFL. He might’ve been “injury prone” early in his career but now he’s healthy and showed us that he was worth that 4-star ranking. NFL teams shouldn’t let his past affect his future. While drafting him might be considered a gamble, he arguably has more upside than any other Iowa player in this class. Often, in my eyes, teams draft players in the later rounds that are “gambles” and have “tremendous upside.” Jordan Bernstine is no different and that’s why I’d argue he should be drafted in the fourth or fifth round.
Bernstine ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 and 4.38 seconds at his campus Pro Day workout. With 29 NFL teams watching, Bernstine also registered a 41-inch vertical leap, a 10-7 broad jump, a 6.75 in the L-drill, an 11-3 in the long shuttle and bench pressed 225 pounds 18 times. |

"BOOMSTINE" to borrow Mayocks term is a height weight speed kid, who can contribute on specials immediately. Recruited as a safety, they switched him to corner but injuries hurt the transition. He's a kid were gonna root for to make the 53.

Good safety prospect it seems from what BJ had posted. I'm worried he's going to be like bob Sanders a s injury prone it it's not a huge deal, unlike Bob, we didn't spend a high pick on him. I like it

Boom/bust pick. Love his measurables, understand he's there due to many injuries.
That's the quintessential 7th round pick. You're taking a flyer on the kid, and hoping the dice break your way.
I hope they look more at him as a safety, if only to keep Meriweather from making the roster. Yes, I'm hoping we have to swallow his cap number this year. |

Hopefully if Tanard Jackson can play for another contract and play like he did a few years ago, he can be our Starting FS for years to come. And this kid Bernstine can be what LaRon was supposed to be if Raheem Morris can coach him to his potential and teach him to play in the box he can be a tazmanian devil in the box like Bob Sanders was.
I hope he works hard and can make the roster, looks and sounds like he has a lot of potnetial and could be a a late round steal story if he can overcome his injury woes. Says in the article he will do whatever it takes to prove his doubters wrong, lets hope he is a man of his word. |

I like him, but let's not forget about Gomes here. I agree, I want to see TJak be our starting FS for years to come. I hope he learned from his past (unlike Meriweather) and earns a long term contract next year as well. I'd like to see Gomes be our starting SS though, now an for the rest of the decade.
