Now that the first round of free agency and the draft are over lets predict the opening day roster. My prediction:
QB (3 spots) - RG3, Grossman, Cousins
HB (3 spots) - Helu, Hightower, Royster
FB (1 spot) - Young
WR (5 spots) - Garcon, Hankerson, Moss, Morgan, Austin
TE (4 spots) - Davis, Cooley, Paulsen, Paul
OL (9 spots) - Williams, Smith, Leribeus, Hurt, Montgomery, Chester, Cook, Brown, Compton
DL (7 spots) - Carriker, Jenkins, Bowen, Balmer, Scott, Cofield, Neild
OLB (4 spots) - Orakpo, Kerrigan, Jackson, White
ILB (4 spots) - Fletcher, Riley, Robinson, Alexander
CB (5 spots) - Hall, Wilson, Barnes, Griffin, Thompson
S (5 spots) - Jackson, Merriweather, Gomes, Doughty, Minnifield
K (1 spot) - Gano
P (1 spot) - Rocca
LS (1 spot) - Sundberg
Notes: I think we resign Hightower to be the backup RB and we'll put the rookie Morris on the PS. Paul will be on the roster as a 4th TE/6th WR/ST player/KR. My prediction is that Lich will either start the season on PUP or be let go due to his injury. I don't think Gettis makes the opening day roster and will start off on the PS. Cook makes the roster because he can backup both at G/C. I think our depth at DE is really thin and hope we monitor the wavier wire for potential upgrades. Minnifield I believe we be tried at FS but will add additional value as a backup CB.
Projected starting lineup:
QB - RG3
HB - Helu
FB - Young
TE - Davis
LT - Williams
LG - Leribeus
C - Montgomery
RG - Chester
RT - Brown
LE - Carriker
RE - Bowen
LOLB - Kerrigan
MLB - Fletcher
MLB - Riley
ROLB - Orakpo
CB - Hall
CB - Wilson
FS - Jackson
SS - Merriweather
K - Gano
P - Rocca
KR - Paul
PR - Minnifield

WR's ???
I agree with this except: I have Banks returning kicks and punts, and I think Bernstine makes the squad << he has so much untapped potential that Raheem can coach out of him. |

That is 53 players and I think that's generally how it's going to go. I'm iffy on Rochard Quinn but it wouldn't shock me to see Shanahan keep both Quinn and Niles Paul. _________________

I don't think people give Kory Lichtenstieger enough credit. IDK if this injury will change him but I thought he looked marvelous last season... I deffintly don't think LeRibeus will beat him in camp _________________

If Steiger is healthy, he will start. Obviously I support him, as one of my 2012 adoptees, but I think he's clearly our best interior lineman. Until Trent is established at LT, I doubt they move Steiger. As for LeRibeus, I think he'll be groomed to take over at one of the guard positions and he will be afforded some time to learn the position. I doubt he starts any earlier than mid-2013. _________________

I missed Nick Sundberg and Jonathan Goff...hmmm, I suppose it's possible they could keep 9 LBs and try to get both Craford and Bernstine on the PS. Looks to be some good competition but I have to think it's going to be tough to beat out Lorenzo if they only keep 8.
Should also be a good competition for deep thread/kick returner. _________________

His injury really took a huge toll on our season. _________________

Fixed. | Could happen, but I'm not holding my breath at a 6th round OT makes the team over a versatie vet who can play Guard and tackle, nor a 7th round Safety is starting for us, nor an undrafted rookie at wr, nor a wr who couldn't field a punt last preseason _________________

| Quote: | | 3. It will be interesting to see how things play out at cornerback. There are eight on the roster and none of them appears to be training camp fodder. DeAngelo Hall and Josh Wilson are the starters but everything is muddled behind that. Holdovers Kevin Barnes and Brandyn Thompson will compete with free agent signees Cedric Griffin and Leigh Torrence, seventh-round draft pick Richard Crawford and undrafted free agent Chase Minnifield. It would not shock me if any of them ended up playing a key role and it would not be surprising if any of them was cut. | Intersting take here, I'd agree _________________
