Since we have a thread for worst Denver choices ever, I decided to start a thread about the best Denver draft choices ever.
Simon Fletcher: Drafted in the second round out of Houston in 1985. The Broncos handled him perfectly. He got several years to develop before he turned into a pass rush force by the late-80's. Think he would have been what he was under Shanny? No. Mike was too impatient.
Terrell Davis: Sixth rounder out of Georgia in 1995. We all know the story. |

Tom Nalen, another 7th rounder of note who played great for us. Was the anchor to our line during the superbowl wins and for many other years. _________________ Broncos-Bulls-Cubs-CU-Blackhawks |

Terelle Davis was that final piece needed for a super bowl run. If he had no injuries he's probably a HOFer. _________________

Im going to throw out a couple, starting now going back in history:
-Clinton Portis, 2nd round 2002- (Picking Clinton got us Champ, whose arguably one of the best Broncos ever)
-Terrel Davis, 6th round 1995
-Tom Nalen, 7th round 1994
-Shannon Sharpe, 7th round 1990
-Steve Atwater, 1st round 1989
-Tyrone Braxton, 12th round 1987
-Simon Fletcher, 2nd round 1985
-Chris Hinton, 1st round 1983
-Karl Mecklenburg, 12th round 1983
-Dennis Smith, 1st round 1981
-Louis Wright, 1st round 1975
-Randy Gradishar, 1st round 1974
-Tom Jackson, 4th round 1973
-Lyle Alzado, 4th round 1971
-Bill Thompson, 3rd round 1969
-Curly Culp, 2nd round 1968
-Floyd Little, 1st round 1967
Also, does - Butkus, Paul Krause, Bob Hayes, Merlin Olsen, Ron McDole, and Charlie Cowan count? AFL? _________________

For me it has to be Sharpe. He was great with or without Elway. TD was a great player, but the O-line in the glory days was one of the best ever.
Floyd Little would be #2 for me. _________________ GO BRONCOS! |

I'd go Steve Atwater here. Its more impressive to turn into a HOF-caliber-player after being drafted in the 1st round than to do it after being drafted in the 7th. _________________

I have a copy of the 1989 Draft on ESPN. They didn't even talk about Steve Atwater. It was all S Louis Oliver from Florida. They considered Louis one of the "Seven Samurai" of that draft. The Broncos chose the correct one, despite what all of the experts said. I hope that history repeats with Derek Wolfe. |

| To me it's got to be Gradishar/Wright in consecutive years. They helped turn the franchise around and became the Marquee players in the Orange Crush. |

I have to agree 100% with this.
Very rarely do you get 2 players in back-to-back years who are the vital pieces of a teams future. Those 2 1st-round draft picks changed the future of what is now Denver Broncos football. _________________
