| Quote: | turns out that the 49ers flew an assistant cross country to work out Irvin a mere two days before the draft, according to CBS Sports.com.
Did Baalke have a second magic envelope? He'll never tell. But the 49ers obviously felt they had to augment their pass rush after getting away with just three OLBs last season. The position was the only one at which the 49ers doubled up. They took Darius Fleming in the fifth round and Cam Johnson in the seventh. Speaking of Johnson, he may be the most intriguing pick. The rap on Johnson has been that he's great on first and second downs but flags by third down. At times he looks like a first-day draft pick. At others he fades into the background. If the 49ers use Johnson as part of a rotation, it seems like it would minimize that condition and perhaps the 49ers have a steal in the seventh. |

| Quote: | I love what the 49ers did late Friday night and Saturday.
So at the end of the dealing, the Niners got their man. And they got this:
• The 180th pick in 2012 -- Michigan State free safety Trenton Robinson.
• Carolina's third-round pick in 2013.
• Indianapolis' fifth-round pick in 2013.
• Miami's sixth-round pick in 2013.
Along with a seventh-round pick in 2013 from Cincinnati in the Taylor Mays trade, and likely compensatory picks for losing guard Adam Snyder and wide receiver Josh Morgan in free agency, San Francisco now sits with a projected 13 picks in the 2013 draft, the most of any team in the league.

| Quote: | | GM of the weekend (tie): Trent Baalke, San Francisco; Buddy Nix, Buffalo. I detailed Baalke's multiple moves to set up the Niners as a power player in the 2013 draft. And getting LaMichael James late in the second round gives Jim Harbaugh the home-run back he hasn't had in an offense that needs a threat like that. |
Some Peter King love. |

I just looked at ESPN's 2013 mock draft on the insider and they have us picking 28th and taking Jonathan Hankins, DT from Ohio State. I know nothing about the guy but right now at this point, i would be a little disappointed with a first round DT.
They also had a DT named Star Lotulelei from Utah going first overall to the Colts, looks like they just used this years darft order for the mock. _________________

No McShay predicted where he thinks teams will end up next year because many teams have moved slots.....for instance we picked 30th this year, not 28th.
As far as the prospect goes, I don't know much about him either. The only 3 early round guys I could say "I know" about for next year are all from USC - Barkley, Woods, and McDonald. _________________

What 49ers Non-Draft Picks Tell Us About The Roster: Defensive Line
| Quote: | | One of the bigger rallying cries heading into last weekend's draft was the belief that the 49ers were going to add a defensive end as they look to groom Justin Smith's eventual successor. It turns out, maybe the team is satisfied with the defensive line currently at their disposal. The team has plenty of opportunities to make changes down the road, but for now it would appear that they are content with their current roster of defensive linemen. They would appear to also see a possible successor to Justin Smith in in their defensive line rotation. That thought might change this coming season, but I can't see any reason that is not their thought process at the moment. |
