Shocked Wow, and it's only his first year of starting! That's quite the recognition.

I want to lock Bowman up to an extension ASAP. Imagine a defense made up of Patrick Willis, Navorro Bowman, and Aldon Smith for the next 7 years. Our short term defense is going to be elite, but if we want that to carry over we need to have those three on this roster. I'm so excited about this season and how good our defense can be once again. How long do you think we can go without a 100 yard rusher and/or a rushing touchdown this season?

We're facing a lot of pass heavy teams, so it's not unreasonable to think the 49ers can go all season without allowing a 100 yard rusher. Then again we're facing AP, S. Jackson twice, Lynch twice, Matt Forte and several explosive backs that can take it to the house at any time i.e. Best, Bush, Spiller, F.Jackson.

GB- doubt they run more than 15 times.
Det- Best and Leshoure should split carries if Leshoure has recovered from inj. Best always has the potential to take one to the house, but not likely vs, our run D.
Minn- This is the one of the best chance of an opposing RB breaking 100 yards. The Vikes passing game is weak, and their O is 1 dimensional = AP. Our D will probably hold him to 50-75 yards if all goes as planned.
NYJ - Greene is tough, but I don't him breaking off our D for 100.
BUF - Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller are both explosive RBs, but without a huge run of 40+ yards, neither of them should break 100 yards. Jackson will probably put up more than 100 all-purpose yards.
NYG - Bradshaw should be splitting carries with their 1st round pick, Wilson. Not likely to break 100 yards.
SEA(2)- 50/50 chance Lynch breaks 100 in one of the games.
ARI(2) - With Ryan Williams returning, decent chance he gets some of Wells' carries. They added Floyd in the draft= more passes. Wells is less than likely to break 100 yards.
STL(2) - Jackson is always tough. If their passing game develops, there's a decent chance he breaks off 100 one of the games.
CHI - Matt Forte = Scary good, but gets a large portion of his touches via receptions. With Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey added to their roster, they'll be passing more than last season= less opportunities for Forte.
NO - Thomas, Ingram, Sproles and Ivory = RB by committee. Not going to happen.
MIA - Much like Best, Bush can take any ball to the house. With that being said, I don't see him putting up 100+ yards rushing.
NE - RB by committee shouldn't produce a 100 yard rusher.

PFF did their own top 101 of 2012 that was completed today. Our Niners were represented with six players. All on defense...
2. Justin Smith (between A. Rodgers and D. Brees).
Quote:
He’s not playing a glamour position, and doesn’t get the massive sack numbers of edge rushers. One of the truths in the NFL right now is that there is no more disruptive force to an offense than Justin Smith. When game planning every offensive coordinator knows full well that they have to try and contain him before they play the 49ers.

14. NaVorro Bowman
Quote:
If you finish higher on this list than your teammate Patrick Willis, then you’ve done alright. Bowman isn’t the athlete Willis is (but then who is?) Instead, he’s a downhill force who shows a tremendous ability to close on receivers when they’re catching the ball, thus preventing any significant yards after the catch. He finished as our top-ranked inside linebacker and added two fine performances in the playoffs where he demonstrated what a weapon he is in run D.

20. Patrick Willis
Quote:
If you were building the perfect franchise, you wouldn’t wait long before saying his name. Doesn’t miss tackles, breaks up passes like it’s going out of fashion...

45. Ray McDonald
Quote:
Well, the 49ers’ DE showed what he was capable of with a quite brilliant 2011 where he wore down offensive linemen, and made all sorts of plays in a team that likes to share them out.

64. Aldon Smith
Quote:
If you include the playoffs, Smith had the highest grade of all defensive players for pass rushing, registering an incredible 17 sacks, 17 quarterback hits, and 43 hurries.

78. Carlos Rogers

It says we have 7 total Niners in the top 100. So far they've gone 80-100 and I think Bowman is still the only one to be callled out.

Who are the next 6?

Bowman, Willis, J. Smith, Gore, and Davis for sure. So are the remaining two Rogers and Aldon possibly?

I'd be shocked if Aldon isn't up there. Considering Nnamdi was one of the few in the 70-range, Rogers might not, depending on how much credit we're giving Nnamdi for his previous seasons...Ray McDonald, Joe Staley, and Goldson would be other possibilities, though I'd be really shocked to see the first two make it.

Goldson should be there as well. I'm guessing this is the order from best to worst.

J Smith
Willis
Aldon
Vernon
Rogers
Goldson
Gore

I really like Joe Staley, but I really think he is over-rated across the NFL. He is a very good player, but not a top 5 LT.

Cautiously, I must agree. He shows glimpses of excellent play, but there are too many times he badly misses a block or gets manhandled. That to me makes it hard to accept him as more than slightly above average.. but I do really like Joe and am glad he's a Niner.

Well if history is a factor AP has no chance of rushing for 100 yds as his two worst games of his carreer came against the niners d. And that was before we were dominant.
