Would you guys be against that? Skip Holtz said something a week back saying he'd welcome an annual Spring game against UCF and I thought it was a great idea.

Go through spring practices, have a public scrimmage one weekend. Then play the next weekend against a local opponent or rival. Switch home and away each year.

nah. spring games the way they are is the way to go.

even in high school it was awesome. get to go up against your own teammates in a game situation, have a little bit of fun, and then go out for a cookout afterwards.

another team would just change the whole dynamic.

Its a very intriguing debate, its got clear advaantages and disadvatages. I think the number one goal of spring ball is to develop players and finish off with everyone healthy. When you play another school in spring you increase the possibility of injury, players will go full out like its a regular season game especially if its against a rival school. You can't tell me Auburn/Bama, FSU/UF, ect will take a game lightly even if its spring.

On the flip side it would be much more entertaining. You would get a much better feel for where players are at in their development as well as where a team is at as a whole. I'm actually suprised the NCAA hasn't jumped all over this with the money it would generate.

I personally would like to see it happen. Even if its not rivals playing each other it would be nice to see teams play someone other than themselves

I thought Wisconsin didn't have spring ball.
I know in Florida we had 3-4 weeks of spring practice then a spring game against another school. The game was on 2 quarters tho.

Oregon's spring game is evenly split into two teams. It's not 1st team vs. 2nd team or all that other garbage. Against another team? No, too many injuries would occur.

i guess we really don't. in high school, we had contact days late spring where we'd scrimmage (no pads), but that was limited to like a week or whatever.

then in the fall at my school we did a big scrimmage at the end of the second week of practice where we invited all the parents and all that and that's when our big one was.

i played one year of college football and for that we actually had spring practice/ball. we were pretty light on the contact though. only thud.

it all kind of blends together.

If you play against a different opponent, you take away reps from the 2nd and 3rd team guys.

The reason for not having a 'real' spring game is that there is a limit on the nr of games to be played each year. Thinking behind that is that they want to take the health fo the 'student athletes' into account. Adding a real spring game could be seen as adding 1 game to the allready maximum number of games (although not during the season, so more time to heal), and if you are going to do that then imo the colleges would be way more interested in adding 1 extra regular season game. Reason: simple economics, much more money to be made from a regular season game.

You get to see half your team (compared to normal spring games) and risk injury a lot more. That's what scheduling a FCS team 1st game of the year is for Wink

In our area (Tampa Bay) schools play each other. Works great, and gives the local a little bit to work with.
