no. heckert gushed about weeden, pre and post draft.
additionally, that holmgren quote was talking about a process way earlier in the talent evaluation process. _________________

I saw that Holmgren quote last week, and a lot of people thought he was talking about the decision to move up to get Richardson.
You're right. It's vague. All we can do is speculate.
But the "good" news is that it keeps the Holmgren hatred burning bright. If you hated the move up for Trent, you can blame Holmgren. If you hated the Weeden pick, you can blame Holmgren. It's a hatred win-win!!!! _________________ Cleveland Browns: We put the fun in dysfunction.

| I have no hatred for either, just to be clear. I am skeptical on Weeden, but I do not hate the pick. It seems weird because I thought they were 100% on both picks. It almost seems like if it was about Weeden, Holmgren wants the credit, good or bad? |

| I guess re-reading the article it makes more sense about the trade up for TRich. It really makes no sense for Holmgren to come out and say that about an actual draftee. |

coulda been him pulling rank on the offer for RGIII.
i really think weeden's been the apple of heckert's eye since the beginning. everytime heckert was asked about him, he gushed. _________________

Yea, I agree that it sounds more about the TRich pick. My only guess would be that the Vikings informed them that other teams were interested and Holmgren knew that teams moving to 3 would be doing it for TRich.
My opinion on why Heckert might of not wanted to do it is that he probably had a back up pick or trade down plan in case people jumped us for TRich....Heckert does love them draft picks
Either way...I'm happy we got TRich and hoping Weeden was a right call...besides Hughes in the 3rd, mainly because I really hadn't heard about the guy....the draft was overall good I think. |

This is actually highly likely - I doubt Heckert wanted to give up that many #1s for anybody _________________

| Honestly, I think the pulling rank thing was a bit overblown. Both Heckert, Shurmur and Holmgren both said that they wanted Peters with that 3rd rounder and when the Falcons took him a few spots ahead of us, Holmgren asked Heckert if their was another player he really wanted. Heckert said no, so Holmgren said "how about we take that QB?" |

Holmgren might have, but he's the president, it's his right.
I hope not though, if you hire a man to do a job, let him do it. If Holmgren wants to 'pull rank', fire Heckert and be the GM. _________________

| I believe he did pull rank. I wish he would let Heckert do his job without putting his two cents in. |

And Luavo was #1 on our board at the time, with Colt #2, so we ended up with both anyways. _________________

Did you not read/watch any of the pre-draft interviews with Heckert? That's why I don't think Holmgren pulled rank. Heckert seemed to love Weeden and even though many were surprised when the Browns drafted Weeden, I wasn't surprised at all because I could tell that Heckert really liked him. _________________ Cleveland Browns Forum Hall of Fame Inductee

I honestly don't know whether he did or didn't. If I were Heckert, I'd say nothing and let people believe he did.
I mean, after Delhomme, Wallace and McCoy, if Weeden isn't a home run, someone has to go. Better Holmgren than Heckert. _________________ Everything happens exactly the way it is supposed to happen...otherwise, it would happen some other way |
