According to the Post, Broncos fire GM Brian Xanders. Spoke to him two days ago. He did not see this coming.

Elway is essentially the GM anyway.

That's curious timing. He was a holdover from the McDaniels era was he not?

Yes. McDaniels promoted him in 2009 to GM, but (from what we are told) Xanders never once had the final say on personnel decisions for the 3 years he was GM.

Elway is calling the shots, and we hired Michael Sullivan to handle cap issues. I imagine the transition will be utterly seamless.

I would've kept him around, because of his name.

I second this motion. however i do have to give the bronco organization credit for having the cajones to fire a guy named Xanders.

that name sounds dangerous

welp, hoping he comes back to Atlanta. it'd be nice to get our scouts back now that they have bombed elsewhere.

Watching the Elway-Manning partnership drive the Broncos into the ground is going to be hilarious. Laughing

You mean worse than the McDaniels-Xanders partnership? Hmm, ok then ...

Now that would be quite an incredible name, Josh McDaniels-Xanders.

They should get married just for that.

Surprising, but it seemed like Elway was making the decision anyways.

This move was just a matter of time IMO.

hahaha yeah, exactly. Elway, Fox, Manning and their imo at least reasonable defense should be able to keep the Broncos competitive in the next 2-3 years. If they are lucky and Manning is the 'old' manning they could even go all the way. That's a whole different story then the mcd years.

The major question for the future of this franchise is if Elway can build/draft a new team when Manning is gone.

I am pretty sure Xanders must have walked into Elway's office and after a 10 minute conversation Elway must have said "Wait.... why do we have you around here for again?" Xanders; "ummmm.......well..... there is......ummmm.....yeah......."
