Just because I'm not an instant draft-grade guy doesn't mean I can't opine about what we've just seen, and what we're about to see in the next few months. Take the quarterback position. Let's rank the 11 quarterbacks who got picked in the draft in two categories: who will have the biggest rookie-year impact, and who landed in the best spot. Keep in mind that history says more than half the players picked in any draft will wash out. Just three of the 11 passers picked three years ago -- Matthew Stafford, Mark Sanchez, Josh Freeman -- have had any impact whatsoever.

This year, I think one of the low-round guys has a chance to makes waves, and maybe early. The order of the rookie impact players:

4. Ryan Lindley, Arizona (sixth round, 186th overall). Whoa, you say. Pump the brakes, pal. Nope. Lindley started 49 games in a pro-style offense in college, and the Cardinals aren't sold that Kevin Kolb is the long-term answer. Something tells me Lindley will have his shot to play by midseason

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/peter_king/05/01/draft/index.html

So, who else finds this comment as absurd as I do?

Even if Kolb isn't the answer, next man up would be Skelton not Lindley. I don't see how both guys would fall apart so badly that by mid-season Lindley would get meaningful playing time. Maybe if we do so bad he could get two or three meaningless games at the end of the year but not by mid-season.

Well with kolbs history of head injuries, and skelton possible regressing i guess its possible

I put it at 1-100 chance i guess, if he does start then it will only be for half a season because we will be drafting a qb..hopefully the tall guy from va tech

And even if we were tanked that badly by mid-season, does King not realize that Lindley's just as raw IF NOT MORESO than John Skelton is? How does turning from raw and ineffective(In this scenario) to another guy who's equally raw and thusly would be equally ineffective help us?

Peter King's lost it.

I don't see him starting unless both kolb and Skelton are hit by major injury. I believe Bartel would be resigned and would have a better chance of starting then Lindley. I could all so see him playing if Arizona goes 0-10 or something like that. But if that happens I think they would be drafting a QB in the top 5 next year draft.

If we go 0-10, I think we'll be discussing other things than Ryan Lindley. Things like, who will be the new head coach/GM of this team?

Let's see if Lindley even beats out Bartel for the 3 spot before we have this discussion. Barring injuries there is no way he sees the field for at least 2 years. Which is how it should be. You don't draft a QB in the 6th round to have him start his first year!!!

IMO - this is one of two typical football analyst problems:

1) Getting too excited about a rookie to the point of completely underestimating the amount of work and time required to make the transition to a starting-caliber NFL player - especially at the QB position.

2) Attempting to create news / controversy out of nothing - especially around an already hot-button subject (like the Card's QB situation).

i cant believe I of all people am saying this, but i think our QBs are not getting enough credit by outsiders.

Kevin Kolb is probably not the answer for this team, but he does deserve another shot to prove himself. he could pull a Matt Shaub, and queitly become a good QB. i myself doubt it, but like i said. i am willing to give him a shot, and i hope he proves me wrong...I really do.

Peter King is just a moron, i mean, even if we do decide during the season that Kolb is not the guy, why would Lindley be given the job over Skelton? it makes zero sense...actually, it makes less the zero sense. Skelton has shown that we can win games while he is behind center. and much like Lindley, he has all the tools an NFL QB needs, he is just raw, and needs to keep working on certain aspects of his game.

if Kolb is benched or injured, which is a legit possibility, Skelton is the guy. plain and simple. and if Skelton gets hurt, or is underperforming. i would think Kolb would be given another shot before we turn to Lindley...thats my honest opinon anyway

As much as I like Kolb and Skelton, I can see them both failing and giving a chance to Lindley. i dont think it will happen, but im not going to deny the possibility

I don't see any way that Lindley makes enough personal progress from all that plagues him(There's a lot) for Whiz to put him out there this season. I just don't see it.

I do. need i say more? Then again my argument has been that Kolb and Skelton could get killed behind this O line and that's why they keep Bartel on the roster who has NFL snaps.

Peter King is rapidly turning into that guy who said the world was going to end last year.

Then it didnt, then he came up with a new date, then that passed too.

Just likes to see his name in lights, profootballtalk are massaging his ego a little too much, he has gotten worse as they have gotten more popular.

Anyone else notice he does not even mention the name "Skelton" in the entire article. It is as if he thinks Kolb is the only QB we have on our roster. Come on Pete, Kolb is not even the definitive best QB on the roster.
