I'm sad to see him go. I think ultimately he had to because he was due to make 3 million this year, and he's coming off that nasty knee injury, he'll land somewhere and someone will get a great player. I know not many teams love the blocking FB like the Falcons do, but he certainly did an amazing job for the Falcons, and he will certainly be missed.

He's a long-time Falcon but not all that surprising really - he's a good run blocker but he's the type of player that isn't really valued anymore. He doesn't offer anything as a runner or pass-catcher out of the backfield.

I'm saddened by this move - my favourite players were guys like Jon Ritchie, Ovie and Lorenzo Neal.

Wow... Just awhile ago I considered Ovie Mughelli one of the best Fullbacks in the league. I guess the position really is going the way of the dinosaur.

The Texans would be in the market for an actual blocking FB; We've had Vonta Leach and Lawrence Vickers at the role for the past two seasons, and Mughelli is cut from that same mold. Mughelli has ZBS experience from Atlanta, which makes him an ideal fit for us, actually.

This would allow us to move James Casey back to TE, where he could take over for Joel Dreessen as the #2 TE.

If he can be had at the NFL minimum, I can say with 99% certainty he will be in Houston.

Also - If you're going to start up a topic, please provide more than just a link, or just a one-word response. We encourage discussion, so feel free to tell us what you think of any news you're reporting.

Thanks for the update! Very Happy

Was unaware of any knee injuries. Sounds like it was pretty bad; What happened, exactly?

I don't think so. I believe it was just a MCL.

I really hope the Rams take a look at him. To run a run-first offense, you need a run blocking fullback. The Rams have none on the team. Rams will be running a similar offense to Atlanta's the last few years, so there will not be much a transition for him. Rams also hired long time Falcons offensive line coach Paul Boudreau in the off season.

Going to a zone scheme like the Texans, it could be a little difficult at first.

Plus GM Les Snead came from the Falcons organization. If healthy, he's a perfect fit. Makes a lot of sense to me.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Atlanta has been running a power scheme since Paul Boudreau was their line coach the last number of years. Not a zone.

Only John Abraham, Todd McClure, Tyson Clabo, Jonathan Babineaux and Roddy White have been Falcons longer. So yah.... like 5 seasons. For the Falcons - that's a decent amount of time.
