I know training camp hasn't arrived yet, but I was curious as to who everyone thought would no longer be on this team that was on the roster last season.

So far I can see us parting ways with guys like Barry Church, Kenyon Coleman, Alex Albright, and another defensive lineman such as Lissemore or Hatcher. I'd want to say Spears, but didn't we just re-sign him recently to a 5 year deal?

Thoughts..?

I have a really hard time seeing Church, Lissemore or Hatcher. Lissemore and Hatcher play a large role that can possibly start the season, and I think there is a chance that Church could be a starter at some point this year if Johnson isn't ready, I think Sensabaugh and Church would be better than Pool and Sensabaugh.

They used Hatcher a lot last year, moving him all over the defensive line. Lissemore was singled out by Jerry Jones as being the most productive per-play player. I am going to be absolutely stunned if either one of them doesn't make the final 53.

They used and liked Barry Church quite a bit last year. I'll be surprised if he gets cut. but if Danny McCray significantly outperforms him... maybe.

I think Spears and Coleman are in serious danger of getting the axe. McGee possibly. Ogletree maybe. Arkin could get the axe if he hasn't improved.

McGee, Ogletree, Spears, Coleman.

I'd say Coleman is almost a definite cut at this point.

Ogletree is toast. I couldn't say who else, but I'd bet Coale, Harris, Radway, and Holmes are battling for three spots. Harris possibly the odd man out there?

Coleman, maybe Spears. Atkins and Geathers are gonna have to prove their worth..

Someone is losing out at safety. Church has made strong contributions. McCray is a special teams ace and doesn't totally suck in a limited role. Sensebaugh and Poole are the presumed starters. Silva has shown some sparks. Johnson is clearly a player. I think it's wide open and it would not suprise me to see any one or even two of those 6 cut (yes, I could see both Sensebaugh and Pool going).

Albright and Butler are gonna have to fight off the UDFAs (because Wilber is making this team).

Lemon and McSurdy are going to battle for a spot.

At O-line, Parnell is going to have to prove he's better than all the UDFAs. I think there's going to be a wholesale throwdown at the interior three spots and I think Arkin, Nagy, Livings, Bernardeau, Costa, Kowalski, and Leary are basically battling for five spots: three starters and two back ups. Nagy, Bernardeau, Kowalski, Costa, and Leary have a postional flexibility that works to their advantage here, but regardless, two of those guys will be gone.

As great a story as he was, I think Tanner's done for and one of the UDFA guys will take his spot.

Coleman is the obvious in my book

Followed by Ogletree

And here is my shocker to most,

Wait for it

Victor Butler! His role will get taken by one of the UDFA's, namly Hamilton

Lissemore was great last year. He'll be playing alot next year.

I see McCray, Church, Albright, Ogletree as definite cuts.

Barry Church will be on the team as one of the 2 backup Safeties. He played as a nickel LB last year and was the primary backup Safety. Honestly, we don't lose much when Sensabaugh is hurt and Church plays. His versatility on defense as well as special teams play, almost guarantee him a roster spot. If anyone at Safety is cut, it will be Brodney Pool or Danny McCray. Pool is on a 1 year contract and McCray is nothing more than a special teamer.

Kenyon Coleman and Clifton Geathers are likely canidates to be cut. We would still have Spears, Hatcher, Lissemore and Crawford at DE.

Victor Butler will be cut. Alex Albright, Kyle Wilber and Adrian Hamilton will be the backups behind Ware and Spencer.

David Arkin will be squeezed out by Bill Nagy and Ronald Leary for the backup spot behind Burnindeuce and Livings.

Kevin Ogletree will be released and our 5 WR's will be Austin, Dez, Coale, Radway and Harris.

Last, but not least, since Bill Nagy can play any of the 3 interior line positions, Kevin Kowalski will win the starting job and Phil Costa will be told to GTFO.

Don't sleep on Nagy winning the starting job at center. One reporter at Valley Ranch (forget who) called him the clubhouse leader.

Jerry said in a post draft day conference, they were pleased with Geathers improvement.

They may well be.

But.

Atkins, Coleman, Crawford, Geathers, Hatcher, Lissemore, Spears (alphabetically) are competing for at most 4 spots. Crawford is a raw and promising rookie. Lissemore is the most productive backup and can play nose as well. Hatcher projects as a starter. Those three are in. Coleman is almost certainly gone.

That leaves Atkins, Geathers, and Spears competing for the remaining spot. Could Geathers win it? sure... and a tie would go to him as he is younger and cheaper... but Spears also can play the nose in a pinch and has been solid, if less a player than his first round pedigree implies.

I could see us keeping 5 ends since we will only have 2 NT on the roster.

I also see only 7 LBs and 8 DBs

As long as Costa is told to GTFO, then it is a win-win either way with Kowalski or Nagy getting the starting Center job and the other being a backup at both OG and C. If you have linemen who can backup multiple positions, it gives you greater flexibility on who to have active on game day.
