Couldn't find a thread on this, and I figured we should have one. Max Payne 3 follows the events of the first 2 games with Max leaving the dark metropolis of NYC for sunny, vibrant Sao Paolo, Brazil. It definitely changes up the dynamic of the previous games, which were always gritty and dark, much like the urban environment of the city Max was in. I know Rockstar has gotten a lot of back lash for changing the locale as well as the look of the character, but change isn't always a bad thing. Most of the core gameplay returns, such as bullet time and Max's dolphin dives, as well as some new features. Rockstar took over development themselves, and while it's been a long time coming I can't wait for this game.
I got to see a personal demo of it back in October at NYCC, and the game looks pretty sick. I have a lot of faith in Rockstar, the GTA games are all great, RDR was amazing, and with an already strong franchise like Max Payne I don't think they will have any problems. I've already preordered the limited edition on Amazon, can't wait! |

I really like the first two games, but this has a new developer and a new writer, so I'm skeptical to say the least.
The gameplay looks to be fairly faithful to the original games... but that's not what made them great. The gameplay, outside of bullet time which is far from being a unique selling point these days, was pretty standard fare.
It was the style of storytelling that really drew me to these games, and I hope that's not gone anywhere. The trailer looks promising in that area, but a trailer can be anything (see: Dead Island). _________________

I would be worried about that too, but since Rockstar is doing MP3 in house, they got Dan Houser (writer behind GTA IV and RDR) to do the story for this game as well. That's what gives me faith for it. Still gonna be weird not seeing Max in NYC the whole time, there is a NYC level but it's in the very beginning of the game and acts as the prologue. |

Bumping this up since it comes out in less than a week now. Anyone else going to get this? The multiplayer sounds like it will be fun to play, like what RDR did with posses this game has gangs you can be apart of online with your friends. Some of the modes sound interesting too. _________________

| I'll probably buy it a week after it comes out to see the reviews. Although rockstar never releases duds. |

Did anyone play a beta or demo? I'm on the fence with this game. _________________

Yeah, that's why I'm glad they have taken over this franchise, cuz when you think about it this franchise really suits Rockstar and their staple of games like GTA and RDR. _________________

I cant wait for this game. Not sure what to expect with the whole slow mo gameplay (I'm new to Max Payne). But Rockstar hasnt let me down so far with the games I've played. From GTA series, Bully and RDR. I loved them all. LA Noire really wasnt a Rockstar game.
I havent had any new games to play. Been MW3, nba2k12, madden 12. Lookin forward to a fresh game so I can leave these alone. |

The launch trailer was released a day or two ago.
Looks like it's keeping things similar to the first two games... I like that. I'm cautiously optimistic at this point. _________________

I can't help but think of Man on Fire anytime I see a trailer for this game too. Similar story lines, plus the South American setting. Only difference is instead of a little girl Max is a bodyguard for a someone's wife. _________________
