Holmgren speaks on a number of topics that have been discussed here on FF in the past couple weeks...

- says there will indeed be a QB competition for the starting position and also for the backup.

- on Colt's daddy doing him in...

Quote:
"No, not at all," he said. "I'm kind of sorry that it came out like that, but as a father myself I totally understand the emotion of it. But it was too bad and I think immediately after it happened, everyone kind of felt like 'gee it's too bad that it happened.'"

- on Seneca not being a mentor to Colt, and mentors in general...

Quote:
"His comments didn't bother me at all," said Holmgren. "I don't expect any of those guys to be mentors to anybody. I'm the mentor or the coach is the mentor."

- thinks MoMass is gonna have a breakout year.

- says him and his wife are "all in" dedicated to cleveland.

- thinks the team is gonna perform much better this year.

there's more good stuff in the article that i'll let you guys read at your leisure. i gotta say, i agree with almost all of what Holmy has to say with the exception of the QB competition part. i think deep down he knows Weeden is the starter but is just saying there will be a competition to motivate all our QBs on the practice field.

also it seems as if, based on this interview, that we're keeping both Colt and Seneca. obviously that could change but i get that vibe.

thoughts?

He also said flat out that we were going to take Kendall Wright if he was there at #22. Didn't explicitly say this next part, but after picking Wright, we would've moved up for Weeden.

Also, in the link that fatpig posted, you can listen to the audio.

That was a good read!

I don't get why some people still hate on Holmgren so much...I remember some people complaining about how he didn't really talk to the media all that much last year, unless it was with Seattle's media. Well he explained it pretty well...he wanted his coaches to speak for the team, as most HC's do, but, he is willing to do more media interview if it will help.

We all know that Weeden is about 80%-90% guranteed to be the starter unless he, like McCoy, struggles to pick up the WCO...but he will have the benefit of having TRich to hand off to and most of our offensive unit having a year's experience in the WCO. I really hope we keep Colt as IMO he is better than Wallace and I don't see Wallace being able to give whoever the starter is good advice that our coaches couldn't give him.

Love how he still believes in MoMass....maybe his injuries have really impacted his potential?

Overall it seems that Holmgren is really committed to turning this organization around....Let's hope Shurmur was the right guy for the HC position Cool

I totally and explicitly agree with this post. Any outcome where Weeden is not the starting QB barring injury would be a complete and utter "FAIL" on the Browns front offices part. To draft a 28/29 year old QB and have him sit for a year or who knows how much longer after that would be an absolute waste of a 1st round pick. Just the mere mention of their being a "competition" in my opinion is an insult to Browns fans intelligence in regards to the game of football. The draft season (or silly season) is over, there is no longer a need to encrypt your intentions for the team. Name Weeden the starter and quit holding Colts hand. It's time to clarify the direction the team is going in instead of keeping people in a state of limbo so to speak with a fictitious competition.

Peace!!

You know it. I know it. They know it. Everyone knows that Weeden will be the starter.

The only reason that the team hasn't come out and said it is out of respect to the incumbent.

Just another in the list of reasons Colt McCoy has got to go.

yep

However, it's not like Weeded is GUARANTEED the starting job. I mean, if he gets hit by a bus and loses a leg, he MIGHT not win the starting job.

he still might though

Hearing that we wanted Kendal just makes my stomach churn. Its such a crappy feeling when you're set on a player and the team is set on him too, and he goes right before us...boy does that seem familiar...

yeah, and the two players we selected subsequently, IMO are on the verge of pro-bowl spots

This was among the most interesting things he said, IMO. To single him out by name and spend the time talking about him makes me think Holmgren genuinely sees something in MoMass, and he knows a thing or two about West Coast recievers.

Megatron.

How can others forget the epic man crush that ACDC has on Calvin years ago.

I think he was devastated when he went before us.
