Motorhead - Death or Glory

its lemmy. what more do i have to say?

I think Lemmy is the one guy that all facets of FSU music fans - whether they be into punk, hardcore, metal, whatever - they all like him, or at the very least respect what he's contributed to the music world.

He pretty much embodies the FSU mentality. Not as much on stage like G.G. Allin used to, but overall.

from ThinkICare:

50 Year Storm by Graf Orlock

MBTL's take: Sure is energetic. Very hectic. One of the fastest songs posted in this thread- the label on their youtube page says they are grindcore. Not sure what grindcore is but it's pretty brutal.

Lords - Man, Everything Sucks

MBTL's take: A modern take on the punk/hardcore/metal crossover. Pretty good stuff. Driving rhythym, it makes your head bob and the anger swell. The vocals are pretty good, not too guttural, and FSU inspiring. Pretty damn good song, IMO.

From MrDrew:

Ignite - Embrace

MBTL's Take: Ignite is one of those bands that MBTL used to listen to when he was a young pup. A hardcore punk band that still manages to sound poppy imo- its hard to do but they do it well. There's a bunch of energy, and I always thought the guys voice (while he couldnt hit the high notes that well) inspired a sense of desperation, but angry desperation. I liked it a bunch, and it made me wanna go out and change things. or FSU.

Western Waste - My Shadow

MBTL's Take: IMO to me it sounds like earlier on AFI, which is not necessarily a bad thing as they had some pretty tight songs. Sounds like california punk, but they manage to also take some sing-songy aspects of the east coast hardcore scene, which is pretty cool. Good stuff.

Union 13 - The Game

MBTL's Take: Not my style, but there is some obvious energy there. It is too poppy for me, but that was the style during the late 90's early 2000's. An Epitaph Records band, so you know they are good by those that like that style, its just not my style.

Man, Ignite takes me BACK! They were one of my favorite bands. Watching that video brings back great memories. Crazy that Zoli is singing for Pennywise now.

I've never heard Western Waste before, but I liked it. Definitely one to add to my library.

I like Union 13, though not one of my favorites. I can attest to the fact that they put on a very good live show though. Great energy. Just by looking at them you wouldn't think that they would play that style of music. When I saw them, probably 10-12 years ago as an opening act, they came out on stage and looked more like they would be into The Smiths or Morrisey. I was pleasantly surprised when they started playing.

All good selections here as far as I'm concerned.

Completely missed this whole post.

Pretty good stuff here, both songs. The first one is not really my style, but I can see how you could get into it. Definitely fits the category.

The second one I could get into more than the first. I like the rhythm quite a bit. Good song. I'll be looking up more of their stuff.

Sorry I am late. But let me get caught up.

So BigBillsFan13 sent me a couple suggestions. The first is Strife, who I actually never heard. But I like em. Very reminiscent of older NYHC. So thanks for the suggestion.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwn_mLIJcGI

And the next suggestion I liked as well. Theyre called Blitz. Very boots and braces. Even had a couple "oi's" in there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQhLZH-fnmM

No school like the old school. With that in mind, and since straight edge seemed to be the preference, I will throw up a couple more to make up for the 2 songs I missed friday night.

Now this, imo, is one of the most criminally underrated bands from back in the day. Boston's SS Decontrol, for whatever reason, never managed to break out like I think they deserved to and their "Get It Away" EP should be much more than just a striaght edge mainstay. They tore it up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YRW14pc2VE
(sound is a bit crappy)

And just for my man, who is a SE fan AND from my old neck of the woods, I have to throw out an oldie he probably hasnt heard for years.

Thanks for checking them out.

Graf Orlock is labeled as cinemagrind for obvious reasons. Not as good recently with their last two EP's since their lead singer left the band to raise his kid.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grindcore

Wiki does a decent job explaining it, then it can be branched out quite a bit.

Fan of Power Violence which consists of bands like Charles Bronson, Man is the Bastard, and such. According to Wiki, Infest apparently pioneered the style, but I'm sure a lot of things can be disputed.

SO BUMMED!! For some reason I can't get the Strife video to play. Which song did you choose? Glad you liked them. They were my favorite Hardcore band in the mid to late 90's, and I just read that they are recording a new album.

All the rest I love. You can pretty much never go wrong with some SSD!

You are right too, I hadn't heard Uniform Choice in ages. Sometimes I forget how many good bands there were back then, and in that style. That whole Straight Edge Hardcore style back in the 80's and early 90's was awesome. Definitely got me started on the newer Hardcore stuff.

Blitz--- our first Oi! reference!!! epic. well, thats a nice precursor to my songs that are coming up. since i've gone the metal route with my songs, i'm gonna go some crossover--- but on the punkier side, and then the cross between punk and oi.

get rdy.

I don't think I'm nearly as angry as you guys. It's that, or I have a shorter fuse and it doesn't take as angry of music to make me want to FSU.

Hadn't actually heard their music before. Listened to two of their songs. They do sound Power-Violence-y. According to last.fm they're tagged as thrash and hardcore punk which is essentially Power Violence. Just that I would tend to agree with what Wiki said that PV really is grindcore without the metal elements. That what it strives for it seems.

I'm 35. I live in Palmdale now, but I was born and (for a while) raised in West Torrance / Redondo Beach.

What about you?

Oh, and I used to be a lot angrier when I was younger. I've calmed down quite a bit in my old age lol.
