This poll is obviously fishing for Gronk votes Laughing

The real answer is Jeremy Ebert. Remember the name people.

Tom Brady - His last two Super Bowl appearances (and several of his last post season games in general) really hurt him as far as people in the Joe Montana as GOAT camp go. So, he pretty much has zero chance outside of those in the NE area.

Ray Lewis - He has a ring, the longevity, the dominance, the accolades, and historic leadership. People will still argue a couple other guys otherwise, but no one would be upset if they consensus came that has the best at his position all time.

Ed Reed - Pretty much the exact same reasons as Ray Lewis.

Tony Gonzalez - He'll probably be considered the first All time great TE as far as this new passing era goes, but with how many TEs are used now in the NFL he'll probably fall by the wayside sadly. I'll still put him on top though.

Peyton Manning - He is the GOAT in my opinion. But, you're either in the Peyton camp or the Brady camp at this point. Barring a back to back Super Bowl wins for either, I don't think anyone is switching sides.

Eli Manning - hahahhahahhahahhahhaahhahahahahhahahahahahah Laughing He hasn't even had an MVP or All-Pro (from anyone) seasons yet. He's far too behind the curve in all honesty even though he still has a healthy shot at top 10.

Demarcus Ware - He's on pace far more than the other names I deleted. He has a lot of work still to do though.

Ray Lewis, who's already the GOAT ILB.

Ray Lewis and Tony Gonzalez are already well into the conversation. (I voted for Ray, because he has everything on his resume, whereas Gonzo through no fault of his own doesn't have playoff success, a ring or a SBMVP)

No one will ever come to a conclusion on a QB (the older guys like Otto Graham and Montana's 4/4 SB's will always stop them)

Reed has Ronnie Lott for competition and Ware is up against Taylor as an OLB and White as pass rusher.

Looking at the rest, only Willis (09), Revis (09) and Gronkowski (11) have shown seasons that if they can sustain over the next 5-6 years that they will have a shot.

If you read the thread, you'd note that all LBers are under the category of LB.

Ray Lewis would have to do something special to surpass LT.

A lot more than he has.

i really hope he was joking

Ed reed, Ray Lewis and Tony G are pretty much the only votes in this thread that stood out to me

And honestly, i voted reed. Best cover safety of all time IMO, period. The other two are almost undeniable as well in my eyes

Because Ray Lewis hasnt done anything special? Right?

Both Lewis and LT have very legitimate claims to GOAT at LB.

I'd rank Lewis as the second best modern D player, and above LT actually. so he's the GOAT LB too imo.

I am ashamed to say I missed him on the poll. I change my vote to Gonzo. I think there is less of an argument for any of Gonzo's competitors than any of the others. Brady and Manning have eachother, along with others like Montana and Unitas. Lewis has Lawrence Taylor. Tony really doesnt face anyone with a very strong argument.

Most career receptions, yards, TDs for a TE. Most consecutive starts for a TE ever. Most consecutive seasons with 50+ receptions. 2nd all time in receptions, 9th in TDs and 11th in yards for any position. Yep, no brainer. Dudes in a class by himself.

not to mention the dude was a good blocker too.
redefined the position.
Willing to discard Antonio Gates, Kellen Winslow, Mike Ditka, Shannon Sharpe, John Mackey etc? Gates is on a trajectory that would have him easily surpass Gonzalez's TD numbers and will give Gonzo a run for yardage as well, depending on how long he plays. While Gonzo changed the game in the modern era, those like Mackey, Winslow, Casper and Ditka helped make that possible.

The question is "WHo on the list is most likely to secure a spot as the GOAT at his position."

If you think someone has a better chance, lets hear it. But try not to somehow "discard" every player before and after them while you are at it. Whatever that means. There are a handful of players on the list that can logically and legitimately be considered the GOAT right now. So they logically stand the best chance. But all of them play positions that have seen greats before them and greats after them. So who stands the best chance and why?

The answer is yep- i discard them. why? gonzo is better. played long time at a high level. holds pretty much all the records for TEs if not all the records for TEs. did everything. why wouldn't he be the GOAT?

Rob Gronkowski. I just don't see him slowing down enough to not shatter almost every TE record.

This.

Every measure by which a "GOAT" is judged Lewis has attained:

Statistics
Accolades
SB Ring (MVP as well)
Longevity
Influence (especially w/ other players throughout the league)

I am a big Butkus fan but he PLAYED 9 seasons while Lewis has been an ALL-PRO in 10 seasons.

He will never even be close.

In fact LOL at a bunch of the names you have on the list. Alot are not even close.

Brady, Peyton, Ray, Gates and Gonzo should be the only ones there.

Everyone else is LOLgetREAL
