The Vikings signed seven draft choices Tuesday, leaving three -- including first-rounders Matt Kalil and Harrison Smith -- unsigned.

Wide receivers Jarius Wright and Greg Childs of Arkansas, both fourth-round picks, were among those signed. Also in the fold are fourth-rounder Rhett Ellison, a tight end from Southern California; fifth-rounder Robert Blanton, a defensive back from Notre Dame; sixth-rounder Blair Walsh, a kicker from Georgia; and seventh-rounders Audie Cole, a linebacker from North Carolina State, and Trevor Guyton, a defensive tackle from California.

In addition to Kalil (offensive tackle, Southern Cal) and Smith (safety, Notre Dame), the Vikings have yet to reach agreements with second-round choice Josh Robinson, a cornerback out of Central Florida.

I was wondering what was taking so long. I understand that Kalil wont be signed for a while (hopefully quicker than McKinney...) but some teams have their whole draft class signed already.

there is really no rush, OTAs havent started yet. I think for the teams with early OTAs, it was more urgent to get their draft classes signed. Im sure the remaining players will get signed quickly, there is really not much room for negotiation with the rookie wage scale.

According to the Pioneer Press, Ellison's deal was for $2.4 million over four years, including a $300,000 signing bonus.

Also a mention of Blanton's terms for comparison.

Shouldn't that be third-round choice? We gave up our second.

Yep, he's a third rounder.

Vikings have agreed to deal with first-round safety Harrison Smith.

Pioneer press is reporting that the Vikings have come to terms with Harrison Smith, the second 1st round pick, I believe that leaves Matt Kalil and Josh Robinson as the last ones to sign.

Huzzah! I am sure the others will follow in the next day or two, if not sooner. Not too much to barter about with the new CBA and rookie wage scale. Just another step forwards to starting the season!

Harrison Smith's contract, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation, is for four years with an option for a fifth, typical under the new collective bargaining agreement. Smith is expected to receive slightly more than last year's 29th overall pick, Bears offensive lineman Gabe Carimi (four years, $7.06 million).

I love the new rookie wage scale. Two years ago, he probably would have gotten close to 10 million in guaranteed money alone.
