Exactly. He can make all the throws needed on 3rd and long, surprise teams with a big play when we are ahead and throws well enough to win games if needed when we are behind. Especially playing against teams in our division. Running the ball is a must. Keep the ball away from Payton and Rivers and give KC less time to run the ball. |

Woh
Seriously ?
After a season where we have just had 3 (?) QBs throw for over 5k yards ? |

Yeah that's a little too much lol, hopefully dmac stays healthy and he doesn't have to lead the league in passing anyway _________________

| The only thing the Raiders have to do to win the AFC West is to cut down on the penalties. |

Stay healthy, stop the run, stop the pass . . . they are far from ready to win the west. It will be improved this season. The Raiders have a lot to do to compete in the west, let alone win it.
This is a new season. _________________

The Raiders set the record for both penalties and penalty yards.
That's 1,358 yards in 16 games. I don't even know how many first downs and TDs were given away and they were still 8-8 |

I agree for the most part since I think our defense will be better but the same at worst. Our offense will be better just having DMAC back and Palmer in a full season along with adding more WR's. We could have easily been 10-6 last year with even an average amount of penalties. I only recall 3-4 games were teams really beat us without us helping them greatly. One being the KC dibacle, the GB game, and MIA. |

Good teams win despite penalties.
The Raiders were not a good team last year. They finished 8-8 in the worst division in football. _________________

I never said I wanted Palmer to a gunslinger, just that I support how he plays the positions. I like that he takes shots and gives his teammates a chance to make plays.
Mix that with a solid ground attack and you achieve balance.
What I don't want is another Jason Campbell type who won't take a chance and when the running game is stifled has no answers. _________________

Good teams don't committ ten penalties per game. |

I agree and the teams that had penalty troubles on defense that did make the playoff, ie NE, GB, NYG, and NO all strugled on defense throughout the year. The major difference is those teams had bottom of the league penalties on Offense which offset the total penalties. We were top of the league on both offense and defense. On offense we had 25 more penalties than the next closest team and 40 more than the next closest playoff team which just happened to be the 49ers who were not so good on offense. 62 more than PIT and DEN which were the next teams in line with playoff berths.
While our penalties on Defense by quantity were not too much more we comitted them at the worst time at least 75% of the time in my estimation.
This also shows just how good our offense can be without the penatlies and they can help the defense even more. Even with commiting 163 penalties at least 25 more than the next worst team we were 16th in ppg and 9th in ypg.
All of this is just numbers of course but they are so extreme that there is no way it couldnt affect the course of the game. Not to mention the invisible "momentum". This is my opinion but it is a widely shared thought throughout the NFL and sportswriters alike that we could be a much better team if we get these penalties down. |
