Detroit will be going hard after Semin per all reports if they don't land Parise anyways.

He's not returning to Washington, and is reportedly looking for a 2-3 year deal.

was a great quote. He's been an amazing player for as long as I've been watching the Wings and this is just awesome.

Also, it was confirmed that Lidstrom was playing the end of this season on a hairline fracture instead of a bone bruise. So, there's that, too.

Every Wings fan had to know the day was coming... but the thought of us taking the ice next season without #5 is still surreal.

Pavel the next C?
Jeez if he is I don't think there have been a better set of C's in a row then Stevie Y, Liddy, Datsyuk.

Zetterberg is going to be the captain. Pavel is more of a silent lead by example type, and while he's a good alternate he'll likely hold that A for the rest of his career. Plus e have a bunch of Swedes on the team who probably relate more to Z anyway.

I will really miss seeing Nick Lidstrom out on the ice. A consistently dominant player thta was part of what made the Red Wings a great team over the years.

Yeah.. I'm not huge on Semin. I would gladly take him because he's young and obviously talented, plus would fill a huge need for the Wings. The potential is there. I think he'd be hated in Detroit, though. He's just so streaky and I'm scared if he gets a big deal his lapses in effort will become even more common. Ultimately, I think Semin ends up in the KHL when no NHL team offers the kind of money he wants.

Per his agent, Semin has zero interest in going to play in the KHL. If he doesn't land in Detroit, then I'm sure he'll just take the most lucrative contract that he's offered regardless of the team or market.

I do think he'll be a Red Wing though. He showed great chemistry with Datsyuk at the world championships, and he'd be a great fit IMO. Semin could really reach his full potential playing under Babcock and alongside Datsyuk. Although I've been critical of his game in the past, I'd be excited about this idea if I were a Detroit fan. He'd give their offense a new element too as they currently lack a pure sniper. The money may be a problem though, as Holland will likely pass if he's asking for too much. We'll see what happens.

If we miss on Parise I doubt that money is too much of am issue. If Holland wants Semin, and thinks he's enough of an upgrade over other forwards on the market, he will shell out the cash. I would welcome Semin, and he would definitely play on the first line with Datsyuk, but I would be nervous.

Where do you guys think Shultz lands?

Semin next to Datsyuk would be filthy. Especially if you only have to give him 3 years, it's not THAT risky.

Dumb. He might as well just retire if he's that concerned about those things. He wouldn't be playing for more than 2-3 more years if he didn't skip this year anyway... I don't understand it.

Montreal Canadiens hire Michel Therrien as head coach

A B+ hire for me. Knows the franchise, the city, the language. Has been to the SCF. Have to think Bergevin at least tried to get someone like Quenneville.

Glendale robs its tax-payers again.

Amazing.

If anyone thinks Gary Bettman isn't a rat making shady deals, they need to open their eyes.

I am amazed.

Red Wings deal Brad Stuart's rights to San Jose Sharks

Detroit acquires Andrew Murray, a 31 year old center whose career high in goals is 8 at the NHL level. Stuart is set to become a UFA on July 1, but will likely sign with San Jose, a California team with which he's familiar. Stuart has made it known he would sign with a California team upon becoming a free agent for family reasons. The Red Wings also get a draft pick if Stuart signs with San Jose, if he doesn't, they just get Murray.

Ken Holland had a pending UFA who'd diminished his trade value by saying he'd only sign with a select few teams right off the bat. He gets a role player and, presumably, a draft pick out of it. Another smart move by the Red Wings.
