I assume not, no sense in waiting for them

Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl

Powers, a comic series created by Brian Michael Bendis, follows to detectives whose job is dealing with crimes by and against people with powers. Christian Walker, a long time detective, gets paired up with his new partner Deena Pilgrim when the murder of one of the most beloved heroes, Retro Girl happens. They work on the case while trying to avoid the crazies who are out there trying to stop them and avoiding the good but a bit of bleep Detective Kutter who keeps on trying to barge in on their case.

Director Sam Raimi
Raimi was pegged to direct this film with his previous work in the super hero realm with Spiderman and his ability to create entertaining stories that can be dark and humorous.

Cast

Carl Urban - Christian Walker
Walker is a big detective with secrets in his past. He has a special connection to the super hero community which drives him.

Rooney Mara - Deena Pilgrim
Pilgrim is the new girl on the block, she's had experience in the force before, but hasn't worked in the super hero area. She has to learn from Walker what she can even though he is a bit hidden in a shell as she tries to find out what makes him go.

Mickey Rourke - Triphammer
An Iron Man like character who has issues while dealing with the death or Retro Girl.

James McAvoy - Detective Kutter
Kutter likes to believe that he is the best and often jumps the gun on things in the criminal world, he is very good, but isn't as methodical and driven as Walker is, except for his drive to be better than Walker which makes him slightly rash and abrasive.

Kiera Knightley - Retro Girl
Retro Girl is the cream of the crop when it comes to super heroes. She is the most beloved and is tragically cut down in her prime.

Willow Shields and Laura Linney - Daughter and Mother, Walker and Deena have to look after the daughter when her mother is killed by a deranged villain who will only deal with Walker.

Jason Schwartzman - The Villain
The Villain, who I am blanking on his name, isn't who you expect him to be and has motivations that lead him to his crime of killing retro girl.

Tim Roth - Captain Cross
Cross is the head of the police department who has to be a strong character dealing with all the wackos and trying to keep lawsuits off the departments back.

Waiting to be cast:

New Reporter 1
Field Reporter 1
The news reporters show a different aspect of the story with how people are reacting to what is going on.

Villain 2
This is the villain that kills the mother and only will deal with Walker, a minor role for the beginning of the film.

I've said it in the comic books thread and I'll say it again here- Powers is The Wire of comic books. It's the greatest series I've ever read and the arc that your film is based on is just the beginning of greatness. FX is developing this as a series and the pilot is being reworked at the moment. Not a fan of some of their castings esp Lucy Punch as Pilgrim. Ugh. Jason Patric is a good actor but doesn't have the size to pull off the imposing Walker. Back to your film tho...

Thoughts on your casting:

Sam Raimi as director? Not feeling that at all after his run on Spider-Man. David Fincher would kill on this bringing that Zodiac flavor with him.

Not a fan of Karl Urban as an actor but he is a more physical presence than Patric. I'm not sure who I would even cast for this part. Tough one.

Love LOVE LOVE Rooney Mara as Pilgrim. Great call!

Rourke as Triphammer is an inspired choice and would bring some gravitas to the role. Based on looks, I would prolly have gone with Ted Levine.

Love Keira Knightley as Retro Girl. Curious to see her with blonde hair.

Not sure about McAvoy as Kutter but the guy is an awesome actor. I bet he could pull it off.

Glad to see another fan of Powers on here. Kudos on the choice!

Powers is a great comic book series, I've been trying to track down books from the most recent run that is going on. Raimi was originally selected by me to do another story idea, then I thought about Powers and decided I liked that idea better. Urban I feel is a solid fit for Walker, he has the physical presence on screen and I wasn't coming up with options I liked better for that role. There aren't all that many great actors who have a big physical presence and can act extremely well. But everyone should read Powers, it is a great great series.

I'm trying to gauge interest here. Who else wants to make another movie?

I'm thinking about incorporating a review board like we used to for the next one, get some good feedback one the films. I'd also like to hear any other ideas for changes.

I have bunches of ideas, however there's a trend with these make a movies. People seem to just like the draft. Around fifteen film ideas were proposed and only six of these were also written. Don't know if anybody has voted for best actor and the other categories as well.
