|
|
|
Jimbo Covert, now CEO of a medical technology company, made some comments on the Bears line play, what has really been happening and what needs to be done to improve. He is not down on Webb at LT at all and believes he did "pretty well" and points to the difficulty of playing the position. He solutions are long discussed around here.
He points out that even those lines which were considered legendary such as the Redskins under Gibbs kept TEs in to block and had backs help out to prevent sacks. We know that Martz did not place a priority on preventing sacks.

"(Webb) did pretty well (at left tackle),"
What did he do well. If the goal was the most sacks given up and the most penalties taken he was outstanding.
I do remember quite a few time Cutler holding the ball a bit too long but really pretty well. Compared to who George McCaskey
I want our Tight ends creating mismatches, making receptions and giving jay another RZ target not blocking. _________________

I would consider Webb our weakest link on the O-line last season but we do have to give Webb the benefit of the doubt that most left tackles would struggle their first year in Martz's system at LT. I feel that our lineman have benefited from the system and are comfortable by now with the men next beside themselves.
Side notes for my projected starting 5
LT- Chris Williams - The former first round draft pick has played all over our line over the years and if Chris can stay healthy he is without a doubt our most valuable lineman.
LG- Lance Louis- Louis is a poor mans Chris Williams which isn't saying much. I've always felt a little adverse with Louis being a starter but like Webb these two guys benefited the most from the Martz experience. This is Louis's boom or bust year.
C- Roberto Garza- Not much needs to be said here.. we all know he is the leader and most dependable lineman we have.
RG- Chris Spencer- Spencer stood out to me last season on his performance. He will be overlooked by most, but the dude defiantly deserves to be starting against the Colts.
RT- Gabe Carimi- Call me a homer or fantasizer but I do feel Carimi will be the best lineman the Bears have had in years if ever. The dude is a mauler in the run game and if he can keep Jay up this season (and himself) expect him being our top candidate selected to the Pro Bowl. |

We did have doofuses like Roy Williams and Brokeback Knoxtain running routes, so you can't really blame him for being indecisive. |

Ouch lol.
Looking forward to seeing how the line would do, it's wishful thinking but I'd love for this group to perform well, as they've finally had a degree of continuity. The competition of Webb and Williams can only improve our play at LT. _________________

Ouch lol. | lol..yeah, that was a low blow there Tyty. But yeah, Knox had some flaws in his routes, and I saw many times where he didn't get in the right position for a certain pass, or maybe he didn't fight enough for the position, but whichever reason he still was in the wrong place. And there were several times where he didn't fight for the ball when I thought he should...but, he did make some very nice plays for us but I think we've seen the last of Knox. _________________

Then clearly Carimi has no incentive to even play for the Bears if he is going to be a RT and can never be considered great |

What did he do well. If the goal was the most sacks given up and the most penalties taken he was outstanding. After Martz was forced to give up his insanely deep drops and run the ball more, the line, Webb included, strangely reduced the number of sacks dramatically as those who watched saw.
I do remember quite a few time Cutler holding the ball a bit too long but really pretty well. Compared to who George McCaskey. When you have deep drops the ball is in your hands longer by the nature of the play not QB indecision, WR unavailability or having to run for your life.
I want our Tight ends creating mismatches, making receptions and giving jay another RZ target not blocking. | TEs who don't block would better be replaced by more WRs. Blocking is one of the defining characteristics of true TEs. |

In another world Webb would have never been asked to play his first two yrs. but would have had time to develop all his skills as Big Cat did. He didn't start a game for his first three years. This year it will become clear to doubters that he will be a fine LT. |

We did have doofuses like Roy Williams and Brokeback Knoxtain running routes, so you can't really blame him for being indecisive. | Neither player was running many "bad" routes. Unfortunately those who make the most noise about such a subject inevitably know the least about it. RW didn't have a problem with routes he dropped too many balls. Knox was an explosive and dangerous threat as his stats show far more productive than anyone else catching the ball for us. It was fun watching someone with that kind of speed. He would likely have been the first 1000 yd receiver for the Bears in a long time sans injury.
Your attempt at humor leads me to suggest you don't give up your day job to become a Standup unless you enjoy dodging shot glasses. You aren't really a Bears fan it appears. How about another about Brian Piccolo's illness or maybe Walter Peyton's fatal disease? I'll bet you have a bunch just as nasty as this pathetic attempt. |

No wonder there is almost no one here if that kind of crap has to be endured. |

Hey, sucking hasn't stopped J'Marcus Webb. | Apparently you believe he is playing because of his Jedi Mind Control over the coaches. "You will start", "You will start". |
