I'm impressed that he made it across and was so calm about it.
But let's be serious, there was no risk here. The safety harness removed that factor, yet ABC was hyping it up like he could die. |

Should have lit the rope on fire to make him go faster |

I wish he didn't have his passport.
The canadians had a chance to pull off the greatest troll move ever and make him walk back to go get it. |

Yup he would have fell like 2 inches before it caught him. |

He didn't want to, but they wouldn't allow him to do it without wearing one.
He fought hard just to be allowed to do this. |

I was going to watch it until he said they were making wear a safety harness. Takes all of the suspense out of it. _________________

No network publicizing this event would take on the liability of possible death _________________

I'm sure he signed a contract that states he wouldn't take it off, or something of that sort. |

If you watched it, he said specifically in the end about the harness " I feel like a jackass wearing it ".
So....it's about liability. It was illegal for 125 years and I'm thinking one of the big reasons they allowed him to do it was because of the harness.
I still think if he fell, that makes him look a bit foolish so it's not like he'd get a free pass. _________________ Legends Never Die. They Breathe Through The New Generation.

It was the ABC TV Network that insisted on the safety harness. No harness, no TV money.
To put all this in perspective, French tight rope walker Charles Blondin first performed the feat in 1859, and in later attempts he did it blind-folded and at another time carried his manager piggy-back. He was also known to do aerial somersaults or to stop and cook an omelette along the way.
I remember first learning about Blondin in the 70's, when the CBC had a documentary series on long-forgotten bits of Canadian history and he was the subject of one of the episodes. _________________
