Regardless of the outcome of the NBA finals, I am boycotting that professional league next season. I love basketball, and I've grown up with it. Its hard to feel this sickened by a sport you love and grew up with. Think of it like how kids find out Santa Claus isn't real - I've been trying to convince myself Santa Claus is real for half a decade and I'm done with it.
To fill the void, I want to give hockey a try. I've always enjoyed watching a hockey game, but I know nothing about the sport outside of the rules and have no attachment to it. I've kind of avoided it, on the basis that I have too many sports interests as it is and letting myself add another would be a distraction. Well now I want to give it a shot. I do have some pretty hardcore friends who would love to help me out.
I do have to pick a team though. The obvious answer is the Bruins, because they are a Boston team, and based off of my rudimentary knowledge of the sport are a team with a "defensive identity", which I respect. But having not grown up with them, I honestly don't feel any more of a connection to them than I do any other hockey team. If there were ever a chance for me to attach my feelings to a team that isn't from Boston, this is it.
Who should I consider supporting this coming season? Feel free to chime in. _________________

Flyers. Cause I love being a fan of the team people hate. And cause Claude Giroux is a boss. _________________

Stick to the Bruins. They'll be good for a while. _________________

Put the names of the 30 teams in a hat and draw one. Stick to whoever you draw. Well, unless its the Flyers or Rangers. _________________

Red Wings. Hockeytown USA. Got a very good team now, and tradition really is 2nd to none. _________________

Since you have no clear favorite and I do like the draw a team out of the hat idea..... I'd go through team names. Pick a few you like. Then watch a few games of those teams. You may end with a favorite team because you like their sweaters. Who knows.? But like any other favorite team, whoever comes up as your team; you stick with them. Good bad or otherwise. Good luck and welcome to hockey. _________________ The Lions will finish 8-8 in the 2013-14 season.

If you like defense oriented team play, the Blues are exactly that with young exciting players. Top goalie tandem last year and a top 3 defense. _________________

My only piece of advice for you is to stay away from canadian teams. Cup free since 93 ..seriously, you want to avoid all the drama that comes with the canadian media and the extra pressure put on teams. _________________

Start watching some games next season and find the team that draws your attention the most.
Hometown team (or closest team) never hurt either. _________________

Montreal says hello.
Anyways, my suggestion would be to watch the sport for awhile without any immediate connections, find a favorite player or style, and then choose your club. That's how I became an Arsenal fan, and I don't see why that same method can't be applied to hockey. _________________

Bruins, Flyers, Tampa are all exciting teams.
I don't know if American fans like to cheer for Canadian teams but the oilers are going to be sick.
There's always the Leafs and Canucks but prepared to get hated on massively. |

Keep watching games and listen to your heart. It's hard to force a connection.
Just don't pick the Islanders, the worst team in professional sports. _________________

I really don't have a team either. I used to like the Blues before the lockout. I was a MacInnis and Pronger fan. But after the lockout, I never really got back into a team. I just enjoy watching it for fun. It's usually so exciting especially during playoffs. _________________
