I love the way that Clemons plays football. He just plays "nasty" and has a mean streak that is for sure. I've been a big fan of Clemons since his days growing up in Griffin, Georgia and continuing on to UGA.
Not sure what kind of money/figures he will be looking at, but I think he is worth a nice contract. Pass Rushers are a premium. _________________

i really hope the seahawks don't let this get bad, just pay the man. That's what the extra cap space is for. Pay your projects, especially when they succeed _________________

Let it get bad! Let it get bad!
I say that not to troll, but actually out of respect for the Hawks defense... tough, tough, defense. _________________

At a reasonable price sure but he has practically no leverage he will come to camp unless he wants to lose a huge chunk of salary.
Atleast he is staying quiet about it though and not making any comments to the media about it. _________________

At nearly 31 years of age, I'm really hoping he's not looking for a big deal to be the eventual backup of Bruce Irvin... _________________

Clemons is a good player, good for the Seahawks to give him this extension. _________________ Why, if it isn't my old friend, Mr. McGreg. With a leg for an arm and an arm for a leg. |

Couldn't agree more. Even a three year deal seems like a long time. Hopefully it'll be structured so that they can let him go after 2 years if Bruce is ready to step in full time by then.
He reportedly just turned down a 3year-18 million dollar offer. Sounds like he wants a Red Bryant type deal (7mil/year). It makes sense for a pass-rusher to get paid more than Bryant, but I'm just not sure Clemons has the leverage to get it. I'm sure Chris saw the Irvin pick as foretelling the future and he wants to make sure he's not cast aside next year or at least gets paid. _________________ GO SEAHAWKS GO!

They're overrated & not making the Playoffs next season.
8-8 or 9-7 best for Seattle. (& No Playoffs) |

| Probably best to front load a 4 year contract in this case. Give Clemons the money he wants as a starter up front to create a more ideal contract in three to four years when he is a backup to Bruce Irvin. |

That's a team-friendly idea - but will Clemons go for it? Looks like he's thinking long-term instead of getting a quick payday. I'm hoping the Seahawks work it out quick, I don't think Irvin is ready for full-time duty yet despite being a mid first round pick. _________________ GO SEAHAWKS GO!

A 31 year old who largely relies on athleticism and schematic fit doesnt have much leverage for a "long-term" contract. I think a four year deal would be pretty ideal for both sides, for a 31 year old, its hard to get any more long-term than that. |

Exactly. Before Clemons was put into Pete Carroll's system he was a situational pass rusher at best. He signed a lucrative free agent deal with the Eagles after notching 8 sacks in a situational role while in Oakland. The Eagles thought they could expand his use and he fell on his face. It got so bad that the Eagles essentially gave us him, and draft pick for Tapp --- a very unspectacular player.
When we gave Clemons the role of "leo" he immediately started looking like one of the premier pass rushers in the league. He was put into a position that allowed him to use his speed, and finess to take advantage of tackles.
Clemons is a system player. He does not have the value elswhere that he would have in Seattle. He is 31 years old, and he is not a paticulary good technician. He is a finesse player (with a nasty streak) that relies on speed and agillity to beat tackles. His market is soft, and I think Seattle knows this. They even decided to draft his replacement -- which makes him all the more expendable to Seattle. |

i remember when he was on the eagles... i think we traded him for darryl tapp, who sucks and will get cut this offseason barring an injury to another player. _________________ @mrejekim |

Tapp doesn't suck. First off, he had a torn pec all last year. Second, while he's by no means a great pass rusher, but he gets a decent amount of hurries and he is a very good run stuffer.
He's a good guy to have opposite an elite pass rusher, as he can clean up the other rusher's mess on passing downs, and on running downs you can shift the LBs over to the other side.
Tapp is a decent rotational guy. Not someone I would want starting every snap. Though I think he could be cut if we only keep 5 DEs, I just think we have the depth. It's not a knock on Tapp. _________________
