So guys, ND got a commit from 5* and #4 player in the nation, LB Jaylon Smith and also 4* top 100 player Isaac Rochell. Two huge pickups on the defensive side of the ball.
Hey Goldenchild, in the recruiting thread, you mentioned this is going to be a huge month for ND. Was that basically just because those two guys we got or do you know or have you read about other targets possibly committing this month? |

A lot of people are hoping that a couple more guys commit at our camp next week, since a ton of recruits are coming, including most of our current verbals. Everyone really wants Anzalone, and a few think he could commit if he has a great visit. |

| 4* FL CB Mackensie Alexander is visiting this week. He'll be there for 4-5 days. Hoping we make an impression. |

UPDATES
* Gunner Kiel reportedly ran the fastest 40 of all the quarterbacks during the initial workouts this week. Very surprising.
* Three freshman have been cited as being in terrific shape: RB/Slot WR Keivarae Russell, S Elijah Shumate, and WR Davonte Neal.
* Davonte Neal has a "very good chance" to start immediately. |

I wouldn't be surprised if Neal started right away given the large void Michael Floyd left behind and he has a lot of athleticism too. I'm interested to see what role if any Russell will have this year. _________________

Is Neal going to be a full time WR or will he also get a look at CB? _________________

Rees, Calabrese suspended for opener
BK came down on Tommy Rees and Carlo Calabrese for the incident they got into a few months ago. They deserved something for what they got into. Got to think this puts Golson or Hendrix in the driver's seat to earn the starting position in fall camp. Though if they couldn't beat Rees under normal conditions, I'd have serious concerns about the QB position.
Are we going to redshirt Kiel or is he going to get a shot at the position? I just want the best guy to win. _________________

Notre Dame shouldn't have any trouble beating Navy without them. Normally I wouldn't think much of a suspension like this against a sub par opponent for the opener, but since it's in Dublin both of them are missing out on a lot more than just a typical game. Kudos to Brian Kelly for not only suspending them but not allowing them to travel with the team for the game, that's a punishment that actually means something. _________________

No doubt Hendrix, Golson and Kiel are all going to be in it, but unless Kiel wins it outright, he hopefully won't see any playing time this year. I got my money on Golson, and who I hope for as well. _________________

Yeah, that is how I feel as well. Golson as starter with Hendrix and Rees as backup. Kiel can red shirt and hopefully be part of the offense starting next year (not necessarily starting, but at least have some packages for him). _________________

Golson has supposedly looked crazy good in the 7-on-7s. But passing has never been his problem.
Theo Riddick has supposedly looked great at running back, as well. Like good enough to start (he won't).
Both Chris Brown and Davonte Neal both look like they could play immediately. Supposedly Brown can really stretch the field.
CJ Prosise is getting looks at corner. |

With Cierre Wood at RB that lineup looks ideal. Maybe Lo Wood getting replaced with Josh Atkinson, but other then that both offense and defense look to be strong. Especially on the front 7 on defense, oline, tight ends and runningbacks on offense. Lots of talent and depth.
Also didn't Keivarae get moved to CB? Did he play well there in practice? I know he was moved there just for depth issues but I think he has potential there. _________________

Terrible news everywhere in camp today.
Will get to the good/eh news first:
* Everett Golson got all of the first team reps today. Hendrix got second team reps, with Kiel getting third team reps. Rees did not get a single rep.
* Cierre Wood is back on the practice field after missing a few practices because of some unfinished paperwork.
* Kelly is really impressed with Lo Wood.
* Elijah Shumate has moved to CB.
And now the bad news:
* Cameron Roberson is now on medical scholarship.
* Alex Welch suffered a knee injury, and it looks pretty bad.
* Danny Spond suffered a concussion.
* Jordan Prestwood has left the team. |
