| Quote: | | One thing that hasn’t changed—yet—is that Khalif Barnes is penciled in as the starting right tackle after signing a one-year deal that could be worth up to $2 million. That’s not much of a deal for an aging [offensive tackle] who was listed as the worst player on the Raiders' offensive line by ProFootballFocus.com.Read the entire article here . . . . |
As much as I criticize Barnes, one might be inclined to believe I wrote this article. LOL. Source not withstanding, if Barnes isn't the Raider's "Most Useless Starter" who is? _________________ 2013 Mancrush: DT Richardson, OT Joeckel, FS Vaccaro, FS Rambo, WR Dobson, RB Michael, TE McDonald, OT Foketi, WR Swope |

Where they need to be, in a defense that performed horribly. So I guess they weren't where they actually needed to be. McClain isn't far from useless at this point. We'll see in the 3rd year.
Most useless? Last year or the new year? Last year Wimbley, Barnes, McClain, Routt come to mind as far as starters go. It's hard to argue B. Campbell wasn't the most useless player kept on the roster. |

Pretty bad logic there. Just because they didn't perform doesn't mean they were lined up wrong. And most likely it was a horrible playcall because our defensive coordinator sucked, McClain was simply the messenger. McClain has plenty of faults, but his knowledge of the Playbook and smarts isn't one of them. (Well, on the field at least)
Now, let the flaming begin, I know how mad everyone gets when something positive is said about McClain.
How was Routt useless? Replace him with van dyke last year and you'd be singing a whole different tune. _________________

Last year it was Boller without a doubt!!!
This year I'd say Barnes will be the weakest link on the team barring injuries that players play through. Though, I don't think McClain will be allowed to play so I'll say the 3rd LB. Curry and Wheeler will be solid but if Ro's out then the 3rd LB will be worse than Barnes... |

you guys really are too hard on Barnes, he didn't do that bad last year. In fact, IMO he played very well down the stretch. I dont know if it's the domino effect, where a few people start not liking a player on here and then everyone starts to not like them. GREAT EXAMPLE, when we had langston walker; his last year with us he was arguably our best lineman (and by FAR our best RUN BLOCKING LINEMAN)...BUT THEN, on the flip side everyone LOVED GALLERY saying hes potential pro-bowl material, when the guy is average at best. HOUSTON, omg this guy gets WAY TOO much love on here..yeah he's good against the run. But he gets no pash rush! Yet people don't talk bad about him.
WORST PLAYERS THAN BARNES:
-WIMBLEY (great 4 sack game against a scrub in SD), i wouldnt be complaining about wimbley if it wasnt for his paycheck
-Carlisle: he didnt have a bad year, but hes worse than barnes.
-TE's
-ROMAC!!!!! i hate this guy lol...please cut him after this year.
-Giordono-i actually like this guy, he gets a lot of hate, but hes not getting paid JACK, and he started LOTS of games for us.
-Satele: had arguably his best year with us this year(which was still average) but I still rather have barnes.
-Shepard
- there are a few more you can argue. |

What if he plays great this year?
And for Houston, he doesn't deserve hate. You said it, he's great against the run but he's also playing out of position. He'd be a much better UT or 3-4 DE, he'd also generate a much better pass rush from the inside. His size/speed would be much more effective against interior lineman than against Tackles on the outside. _________________

I hope your right about houston, i liked him a lot coming out of texas (where he played DT) and I too believe he will be much better at DT.
BUT MCCLAIN! i have never disliked a raider more than mcclain, IMO he has such a LOW CEILING (as far as potential), Mixed with LACK OF EFFORT (which i see on the feild) IS A HORRIBLE COMBINATION and i hope im wrong about the guy. ( i was wrong about DHB who I would have cut after the first time i saw him try and catch lol, and I was giving up on DMC when he had his break out year) I LOVE BEING WRONG when it comes to RAIDERS! but i dont think I will be about mcclain, UNLESS HIS MEDICAL IS REALLY HOLDING HIM UP. |

Where they "need to be" is where the ball carrier is. We're not talking about a 400 level college course in critical thinking here so spare me the quality call on my logic. Performing, as you put it, is being where they need to be to stop the ball before it ends up in the end zone or past the first down marker. Football 101 for dummies. STOP THE BALL before something bad happens. They didn't do it, and McClain didn't help them do it. As the QB of the defense, it's he said she said on how he failed to do that. But he DID fail to do it. Because he is the man most responsible on the field. Directly or indirectly, he sucked, made no plays, and was responsible for others making no plays. AFA Scheme - does he not have authority to make audibles and necessary changes? Did he make any? The guy was a step slow on every level last year, mental and physical. A true disappointment, all year.
Routt is useless for the simplest reason of all and in the clearest logic someone can muster. He made no plays of any particular note all year. Was burned repeatedly. Just like the rest of the defense, one step behind all goddamn year. That is by all accounts the definition of useless - having no positive use. Doing nothing useful defensively.
No matter how it is sliced, when a defense performs as absolutely horribly as ours did last year, it is hard to say anyone out there is much more than useless. Every one of them.
I fail to comprehend why some of our players can be singled out as being "good" like Kelly, Seymour, Houston, Branch, and yet they played on the same field as all the other guys who failed. I didn't see any of them changing games with their play? The whole D was virtually useless and the only guys who get a pass on it are the ones who didn't see the field. I.E. Shaughnessey. But if it makes you feel better you can surely blame Al Davis and Bresnahan as well.
HOWEVER - that plain vanilla D they installed and called is designed to beat the opponent on speed, skill, strength. Straight up, win the battles. Here's the thing - our defensive players would have had a good defense going if they won any of the battles. THEY DIDN'T. Not Routt, Not McClain, and really not the rest of them either. Because they're not good enough to do so. |
