HUGE pickup. This staff is really putting it in when it comes to recruiting!

hey guys how to do think bill o'brien has done so far as the head coach? I'm a patriots/michigan fan obviously I have some interest in how he's doing and on the recruiting trail he looks solid.

is he starting to quiet some of the skeptics that were out there after his hiring?

He's been pretty good at recruiting thus far. He's definitely been recruiting offense more heavily than defense up to this point.

I don't know that there were very many critics or skeptics on O'Brien so much as there was just confusion and surprise. He wasn't connected to us for very long before he was hired, and it all came together a little quicker than I think some of us expected.

The Patriots pedigree (and everything that goes along with it) is a selling point that I believe most bought into. Given the circumstances totally unrelated to O'Brien at the time of his hiring, I think he landed rather unceremoniously.

That being said, he's been fantastic in recruiting. We've all noticed an immediate improvement in how, where, and why we recruit particular players. Certainly the proof will be in the pudding regarding BoB's success as an actual coach and not simply as a recruiter -- the fault of many coaches (ex. Ron Zook).

The best way to sum up Bill O'Brien's short and untested tenure as Penn State head coach, and heir to Joe Paterno, is 'so far, so good.'

Very nice pickup with Anzalone still out there as well (though not expecting him). Got Issah and Bradshaew as verbals as OLB and Bell as verbal to MLB.

I pray that the CNN news story is false about Paterno.

Sorry for bringing it up, I just don't know what to believe.

I won't take any judgment on a vague out of context email "leaked" from an investigation.
The news can try to spin it that Joe pushed them not to go to police. When the more logical assumption would be that when Curley went back to Joe, it was to ask him what McQ told him, which McQ has admitted was watered down and not in detail. And that after that, Curley wasn't comfortable not talking to Sandusky first. (Which IMO is stupid, but I wasn't in their position so again I won't judge yet.)
BUT that doesn't sell or fire up masses.
Pay attention to the pronouns used by Curley. "I" (Curley) am not comfortable with what "WE" (Curley and Joe or Curley and Schultz?) agreed upon.
Joe may be guilty as sin for all I know or at this point even care. But anyone who makes a definitive judgment about Joe or any kind of cover up based off of this vague out of context email is a fool and will only reach the conclusion they wanted to anyway.

It's disappointing, but we're still in good position with Benton, and we Vandy as our LB coach.

Disappointing, but not too worried.
