Former Oilers and Rangers coach Tom Renney has been hired by Mike Babcock and the Detroit Red Wings as an assistant coach. A 3 year contract for the 57 year old.

Meh

this just got me all tingly in the pants. I just keep thinking that everything they're doing just leads to a Weber signing next offseason. I don't really expect any more moves.

Possibly my favorite move by the Wings so far this off season. This or Tootoo. Laughing

Gervais will be competing for the 6/7 spot along with MAB, Gus, and Lilja. Fedtenko should provide a good 4th line player, and can step up and play 3rd line minutes if need be. A veteran as well so that can't hurt. Used to play in Philly back in the early 2000s.

We are at 50 contracts so we can't do anything else unless its a trade. It would be nice to go into the season with some cap flexibility so we can make a move at the deadline if need be. Just gotta get Jake signed now.

Flyers can still sign 2 more players actually.

Some complicated rule, but that's what the beat writers are reporting.

Yeah you're right something to do with Cousins and Mathers, but hell if I understand it Laughing

I read the 50 player thing earlier today from someone's tweet, but have since read what you're saying.

Great day for Minnesota fans. Getting Parise and Suter is awesome

It is and it isn't. As a hockey fan in Minnesota you'd have to be ecstatic about these moves simply because it makes you a significantly more dangerous club. Plus, adding 2 marquee names builds a ton of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming season.

However, Suter instantly becomes the most grossly overpaid player in all of hockey IMO.

I like Suter's deal more than Parise's.

I don't because Suter is not a true #1 d-man IMO.

I love Suter's style of play. He plays his own zone as well as anyone and moves the puck really well. Considering the term of the contract, the "fact" (for lack of a better word) that Suter's game should age well is definitely an added bonus. I love Parise, but I don't think he's worth 7.5+ million for more than the next few years. Consider that Suter also will have tons more ice time, and I would rather give him that deal than Parise.

Of course I'm biased, as I have been justifying to myself all possession that Suter is worth it.

Both are horrible contracts no doubt.

However, I love Parise and consider him to be an elite, if not then borderline elite, forward. He's a true leader too, and fully capable of shouldering a franchise if need be. Suter is not that, and I'm not even sure how well he will fare without Weber as his partner to be quite honest with you. He certainly won't have as much freedom to venture forward with whoever he's paired with in Minnesota. I'm not trying to imply that he's not an all-star d-man either, but that kind of ludicrous contract should be reserved for the true elite, franchise blue-liners, and he just isn't one of those guys. Suter is now a 2nd tier d-man being paid like he's an annual Norris contender, and I don't understand why so many clubs were willing to invest $100 million into that type of player. I would've personally stayed far away.

According to Allan Walsh, Nash has waived his NMC for three teams, and Philly isn't one of them. Most Philly fans probably aren't to upset by this right now considering what Howson is wanting, but just a little tid bit in this Nash fiasco.

Homer kept his 1st Rounder finally last year, we better build off of this.

Is there any news on the 3 teams?

The Rangers and Leafs seem like safe bets. Not sure who else would be on there.

The Gervais signing seems like a waste with guys like, Bourdon, Gus and Manning. They could potential be something down the line, which Gervais won't.

I like the Fedotenko signing, we could use some experience on the bottom 6, and it's only a 1 deal.

Who are these dudes.

Ruslan actually started his career in Philly, solid bottom 6 forward who can play a good defensive game and probably will be on the 3rd line with Couturier and Read, and is usually a good bet for 10 or so goals and 30 points and will give that line a solid veteran presence at left wing.

I have no idea who Bruno Gervais is but I'm partly concerned he's a mix between Bruno (Bad and Soft) and Ricky Geravis (Offensive) due to what I've heard.

Rather go with the young guns.
