Cosmetic Plague by Rudimentary Peni. My favorite song from one of my favorite bands as a teen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsuOeFiKoXo
Love the lyrics too. Pretty profound imo.
Being honest is no means of survival
Avoid your inner feelings like the plague
This is what it takes to comply with the images
This structure will accomodate
But things aren't what they seem when they're partially hidden
Behind walls of pretense built for peace of mind
The barriers between us are forever maintained
By our acceptance of the roles others choose to define
In a world of competition life's portrayed as a contest
Where we're forced to live by making gains at others expense
But no one's really gaining when perpetual conflict
Is the result of our relationships based on pretense
We don't need this cultural cosmetic division
It upholds the self-interest on which the system feeds
A deconditioned consciousness of mutual respect
Is the only way to cure this cosmetic disease
The bolded being my favorite lines.
Here's some old SOA (State of Alert). Henry fronted this band before heading back to Cali and fronting Black Flag. Just some good old american hardcore.

And here's a band most people in the know feel never got anywhere near the recognition they deserved. Poison Idea, from right here in Stump Town, was like the cities rep in the 80's. And Pig Champion was a straight up boss.

Both of which have more of a hardcore sound - I see it as more thrash metal with minimal hardcore elements, but my hardcore following does begin in the mid-90s so that could also be why. _________________

So while I was recently driving across country I was in Wyoming or Utah in the middle of the night and was wearing down. So I put on some loud music and this was one of the songs that kept me going. It went great with the whole silvery "moonlit badlands" surroundings.

And I was listening to older stuff later and came across some Coalesce. Good stuff.

and Snapcase.

I'll go the easy route and throw in some old staples.
The first 4 minutes of SOD's Speak English or Die are absolutely epic. The rest of the album was amazingly FSU. But the first 4 minutes just put you on another level.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok0YPrf9ZHA
And some good old Rollins fronted Black Flag for good measure.

Thats angry stuff. _________________

And they wonder why I scoff at calling crap like The Devil Wears Prada and Escape the Fate "hardcore" _________________

LOL, they are interchangeable, like Legos.
Take one set of spandex covered legs, or skinny jeans if you prefer, connect that to the vest with no shirt torso, or the XXS sleeveless tee, and finally choose between the long, in the face emo hair (complete with 6 lip piercings) or the tousled, aqua net overload hair (which comes with lipstick).
Fun for all ages! _________________
