I like the list and the other TEs in the convo.
For my #1, Jordan is it. He's the mold Tony Gonzalez, Dallas Clark, and even Gronk were created from. Prior to him, most TEs were undersized guards or tackles, or they were Dave Casper-types who could catch anything and everything, but were smallish. By the way, wasn't Casper a Vike for a year or two at the end of his career?
Now for my #2 -- I go with 'Sass! He too, was an undersized tackle, but he blocked better than most. He's a true artist of his craft, which was to demolish "the other guy." I look back to his 2nd or 3rd year in the league when he played with a hairline fracture in his shin and still had a good number of catches. Then, the next year, he took that shot to his knee (why would someone try to tackle him high?), which resulted in the blown ACL. Over the last several years, there were also a lot of times on 2nd and long where the guy made big plays to get the first down. Nope the stats won't reflect a HOF career, but he deserves some recognition for being a stalwart competitor -- the image of a true Viking!
The rest of the list is pretty solid, although I'm torn between Senser, Wiggins and Chamberlain. Any of them could be #5. |
