Oh, yes he CAN get worse. Watch old film of guys like Ryan Leaf or David Carr when he was with the Texans. THAT is bad. Gabbert didn't do WELL, but there have been MUCH worse.

As someone who watched David Carr for years, I can tell you that a RB who can run and catch is a QBs BEST friend. Carr looked like he could of done something once Dominick Davis was on the team. When Davis was out with injury, Carr started to suffer BIG TIME, and started to take a beating, which really ruined the guy.

Quote:
A QB can not have the success in the nfl(and even in the CFL), if he is scared

...and one of the ways you deal with that fear is giving him a run game to work with, so he can hand off and get positive plays while not taking a beating. This looks like the opposite is going to happen - the QB is bad, and instead of giving him every chance to do well, he's losing the lone bright spot of that offense.

Watch Troy Aikman his rookie season, and you'll see what I mean. Guy was a deer in the headlights for the Cowboys his first year starting. Next year, Cowboys bring in Emmitt Smith, the 'boys have a run game they could use to help Aikman out, Aikman's confidence started to get better and his timing with his targets started to work out, and next thing you know...you have a HoF QB and a dynasty in the making.

Yes, Aikman in Dallas is the exception for the most part, but the direction that is currently happening with MJD and Gabbert is the OPPOSITE of what Aikman/Smith went.

MJD Won't report and Khan has said there will be no new deal.

Interesting to say the least.

This isn't a good development for the Jags in the least. MJD is their offense, and the guy who was to play Robin to his Batman act - WR Justin Blackmon - is current neck deep in his issues, and he's not a lock to play 16 games due to it.

Khan wants to be a passing first team and aggressive through the air...On top of that, the FO loves Jennings and wont back down (at this time) and cave in.

For all the whining we hear about players wanting long term deals, it sure seems like quite a few of them don't ever want to play them out. If these guys loathe the back end of their deals so much, why aren't they signing two year deals?

THANK YOU. They want job security, but dont like it when the front-loaded part of the contract is up

To Gene and Khan, he isn't "that big a step down" as we make it out to be.

Of course they say that. Saying how it really is makes them lose even more leverage

I think Jennings can be a good starter if necessary. Not an elite guy like MJD, but good.

It's irrelevant though. MJD won't miss any games. The Jags have almost all of the leverage here.

This quickly turned into a Blaine Gabbert discussion for a bit, I see. Laughing

Not worried about how this effects the team or Gabbert's development.

Oh, yes he CAN get worse.

Jimmy Clausen.

At least Gabbert doesn't look like an ostrich.

Although there were times while watching him play I stuck my head in the dirt

What would Jags fans think about trading MJD and possibly a 3rd or something to the steelers for Mike Wallace. The Jags are trying to eventually switch to a passing based offense and as great as he is MJD can only last so long. Both sides are having contract issues, the steelers could use a great back that can carry the load with Mendenhall's injuries and the Jags could really use a deep threat. I would feel comfortable with Gabbert going into the season throwing to Wallace, Robinson, Blackmon, Thomas, especially if lewis can find his hands again.

Idk, I dont know if Wallace is worth 10M a year, but it is definitely interesting

Yes, I would love that deal.

I'd take it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, MJD doesn't adhere t the "Steeler Way" - they don't give in to greed any more than Gene Smith is.

True although its interesting because the Steelers need a RB with Mendy hurt plus the additions on their line would definitely make running the ball with an elite RB so much better plus Brown and Sanders are very capable WRs albeit young. The Jaguars clearly want to become a pass-first team although I think its a bad idea and apparently Jennings is going to be better than I thought...
