| Quote: | | SUNDAY, 12:51am: The Brewers will receive right-handed reliever Fautino De Los Santos in the trade according to Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle. The 26-year-old pitched to a 7.25 ERA in 36 Triple-A innings this year and owns a 4.21 ERA with 11.4 K/9 and 5.0 BB/9 in 36 1/3 big league innings with Oakland over the last two seasons |
I liked him in his short outing with us in the bigs. More than I wouldve gave up for that George fella. Good return for you guys. _________________

Nice return for Kottaras - de Los Santos has 2 potentially elite pitches in an upper 90's fastball and wicked slider.
He has closer upside, but spotty control/command. If you can figure him out and get his mechanics down, he's a huge asset moving forward.
EDIT: Slide him in at 19 on the prospect list. _________________

Someday, MLB is gonna get it's act together and get a salary cap. Until that time, unless someone richer than Attanasio is willing to buy a championship, there is no way Milwaukee will be able to afford two $100 million players. _________________

Just a thought, and I am asking because I don't know. Can we tag Marcum like we did with Fielder?
The reason I'm asking is if we did that, we'd be able to let Marcum show off his stuff in a hopefully healthy year. At that point, we'd be able to do a similar trade at next year's deadline. _________________

Provided he is healthy and pitches well down the stretch, I would expect him to get at least a 2 year/$20 M deal in free agency, so he would almost assuredly spurn that offer.
If that happens, we would get a supplemental 1st round draft pick ahead of all of the competitive balance lottery picks. If he accepts the one year offer, we could then trade him at the deadline like you suggested. _________________

I'm asking this not to argue, but honestly cause I don't know. Why were we able to tag Fielder, but not Marcum? _________________

I'm probably misremembering my terms, but my understanding is that Fielder's contract expired after 2008, but we were able to apply the samething as a franchise tag to him each season for 2009, 2010 and 2011? _________________

Years 1-3, the player is signed to 1 year deals at the minimum salary (unless the team wishes to show goodwill by offering a little more). There is no negotiation process.
Years 4-6, the player goes to arbitration (provided the team offers it) to determine his salary.
Once you get to year 6, you become a free agent when your contract expires.
The Crew got to sign Fielder to a 2 year deal and a 1 year deal because he had yet to accumulate 6 years of service, however, Marcum will have 6 years at the end of this season, so he goes to free agency. _________________

Let me ask this, we've traded Greinke and Kottaras, and I think it's a fair assessment that we are rebuilding. Whose else is most likely to get dealt before Tuesday? _________________

If you're going into a 2-3yr rebuild, why wouldn't you deal Braun? _________________

He is the face of the franchise, the one guy that has been consistent, he is signed through 2020ish, there would be riots in Milwaukee, we probably wouldn't get his true value back in a trade, and he has a full no trade clause I believe. Unless that hasn't kicked in yet. _________________
