Vikings special teams coach Mike Priefer has no trouble saying it. Percy Harvin is the team’s No. 1 kick returner. That was clear Saturday morning when Harvin went through the morning walk-through on the first unit kickoff return team. And it was clear when Priefer met with reporters afterward.
Priefer: “Come Week 1, if he's ready to roll, we're ready to have him back there. Absolutely. I think we're going to have a good plan with Percy this year. He is our number one kickoff returner. When we have the opportunity to use him, we're going to use him.”
Other guys in the mix at kick returner right now include rookies Josh Robinson and Jarious Wright, Kerry Taylor and Bryan Walters. For the record, Lorenzo Booker returned 19 kickoffs last season but is now with the Bears. Cornerback Marcus Sherels returned 16 kicks but may be a longshot to make this team.

Not a fan of your best WR returning kicks, I'd prefer that be Webb or some backup. _________________ Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat |

Agreed. Most of the time they are touch backs anyway and the collisions arent nearly as bad as they are returning punts. I dont mind Harvin back there, but i would love for Robinson or Wright to be just as dynamic as a return man as Harvin so the difference between having Harvin, robinson or Wright back there would be minimal. It remains to be seen if Wright or Robinson can be dynamic return men, but i think if they can be, that would be great for Harvin.
As long as Harvin isnt returning punts, im fine with it. |

With Precy doing Kick returns, you can expect all the opposing coaches to be gunning for touchbacks.
Want Wright / Robinson doing Punt Returns. _________________

I just don't like it. You don't put your number 1 WR at KR or PR. Most NFL players agree that kickoffs are the scariest/hardest hitting parts of the game. One solid hit and our team has virtually no one at WR.
Terrible decision. _________________ Welcome to Minnesota, Greg Jennings.

I thought Webb was strictly a QB this season?
Either way, I like the idea of keeping Percy on Kick Return, but I'd like to see some other guys get in there too.
I think J.Rob and Wright deserve a shot. Maybe even Jordan Todman. _________________

| Sounds like Todman has some wheels too, if he makes the team as a third down RB, I would expect him to get a roster spot as a return man on game day. Rather than Jarius Wright, who will probably be inactive most of the season as the #5 or #6 WR. |

Harvin is a gamechanger in this role. He is rightfully the #1 KR. _________________

Priefer doesn't determine who starts; therefore, I wouldn't believe anything he'd say at this point. In the end, it will be Frazier's decision as to whether he wants Percy back there or not.
I personally don't care one way or the other. I don't expect him to be back there, but if he was, I'm not all that concerned. _________________

| I expect a similar handling of KR as last year. Booker led the team with 19 returns. Harvin had 16, and Sherels had 16. I think Harvin will be used and be considered the primary kick returner, but Robinson, Todman and/or Wright both will get just as many looks through the course of the season. |

Although Marcus Sherels' spot on the final roster is in jeopardy, Prieffer said he's still the team's No. 1 punt returner at this point. Prieffer also will use rookie Jarius Wright, receiver Bryan Walters and possibly rookie cornerback Josh Robinson in Friday's preseason opener at San Francisco. Robinson is in the early stages of returning from a hamstring injury.
As for kickoff returner, Prieffer said No. 1 returner Percy Harvin has earned the right not to have to return kicks in a preseason opener. Sherels, Wright, Walters, Robinson and possibly Stephen Burton will return kicks on Friday night.

| Id rather not see Sherels win the job, I think Robinson has more potential both as a CB and return man and Sherels was rather disappointing as a CB. The only shot Sherels has of making the team is if the team carries 6 CBs, otherwise, its safe to say that Cook, Winfield, Robinson, Carr and Bowman are probably locks at CB. |
