Jerry Reese's comments on Bennett :
| Quote: | | "I think he's going to really help our run game, because he's a tremendous blocker. We think he could be a good receiver, but what he gives us as a receiver is going to be a bonus. We think he can really help us get our run game going, because he's the blocking tight end that we haven't had. Jake [Ballard] was an okay blocker, Bear [Pascoe] has been an okay blocker. But Martellus could be a dominating blocker, and that's what we haven't had, really for a while. We haven't had a dominating guy since, like, Howard Cross." |
Looks like the Giants are not going to rely on him in the receiving game anyway, so it's a moot point. I do look forward to him setting the edge for David Wilson though. Should really improve on that 32nd ranked rushing attack from last year. _________________

Stranger things have happened. Jake Ballard had a whopping 377 receptions at Ohio State. Who would've thought a UDFA, not known for his receiving skills, would end up with 604 yards in his first season? Just some food for thought.
Bennett is the most physically talented TE the Giants have had since the early days of Jeremy Shockey. Your negativity will not damper my excitement. _________________

It's not negativity - it's reality. But hey, you gotta have high hopes, no? _________________

I mean, I don't have to have high hopes. It's not like our success hinges on Bennett. The TE has always been an afterthought in Kevin Gilbride's offense. Like Reese said, anything Bennett provides in the receiving game is a bonus. _________________

Then again, you weren't big fans of Chris Canty when he jumped ship either. |
He wasn't a good blocking TE. He was an excellent run blocker. Pass blocking...not as much. Super athletic with either terrible hands or concentration. Had he developed the way we wanted, Laurent Robinson may have never gotten all the TD's he got in Dallas. Never hated the guy. Just annoyed that he seemed more motivated at being a social media personality than he was a polished TE. Can't root for him, because he's in NY. Sorry. Plus it always seems to be the underachievers that make all the statements.
F.Y.I, he will hate you guys next year, when let him walk. That's why you gave him that miniscule one year deal. |
