This is a very good point. I didn't think of that. If Moss hadn't been under the tutelage of Carter, he could have been a big bust. Look at how his production dropped when he went to the Raiders. |
Moss' production dropping in Oakland had nothing to do with Carter. Oakland was a mess at that time with Kerry Collins. Sure Carter helped mentor him, but I think Moss would be a HOFer whether or not he played alongside Carter. |

In my mind, the thing that seperates Carter from Moss in discussion of who is the number one receiver is that Carter worked to be the best he could be. He totally immersed himself in the craft of receiving.
Moss, relies on his physical gifts and doesn't have an attitude that translates into hard work. He's great when he has something to prove; i.e. to prove to those teams that passed him in the draft that he was the best player in that draft; or, to prove everyone who wrote him off in Oakland that they were wrong. If Moss doesn't have that kind of outside stimulus, he's just a better than average receiver.
Carter's attitude comes from the inside. His greatest challenger was Cris Carter.
I will still hold to my opinion that if Anthony Carter had played with someone other than Tommy Kramer most of his career, he would be in the arguement as the number one Viking's receiver of all time. |

Absolutely right. Carter was good, but he was nowhere near the player that Moss was. As CC would probably say himself after reading that he was ranked higher than Randy... "Come on man!" _________________

Randy Moss could have and would have been #1 if he had stayed. But, couple that with the attitude issues, it justifies making him #2 to me...although I certainly understand why some would feel he should be #1.
Statistically, I could make the argument that Cris Carter is still #1 as well, as Carter has more catches, more yds, and more TDs in a Vikings uniform. While Moss has surpassed him in yds and TDs overall, Carter still leads him in purple, and that's what this ranking leans towards. _________________
