Manti Te'o figures to hear his name called in the top twenty, but he looks like he might be only suited to play in a 4-3 defense with his lack of mass and his inability to get off of blocks. Andrew Jackson has probably the best chance to move up, as he's patterned his game after Ray Lewis. Shayne Skov and Kevin Reddick come from great programs, but both have issues they'll need to overcome if they want to get drafted relatively high. Arthur Brown has plenty of talent, but hasn't put it all together just yet. Tom Wurt came in last year and played reasonably well for the Sooners, but I expect a much better year this year.

I might in the minority on this one, but I ultimately think that the lack of long speed on David Amerson will end up hurting him. I think he might end up being a better free safety than he is a corner, since I think he's relegated to a zone corner at the next level. Justin Gilbert and Jonathan Banks are my clear top corners, and I think both are in for big years. Both Rhodes and Amerson are bigger corners who might be better off moving to safety at the next level. DeMarcus faced a lot of quarterbacks throwing at him to avoid Dre' Kirkpatrick, so he's well tested. The Longhorns always seem to pump out good defensive back prospects, and Carrington Byndom is one of the next ones to come out.
1.) Justin Gilbert [CB; Oklahoma State]
2.) Jonathan Banks [CB; Mississippi State]
3.) Xavier Rhodes [CB/FS; Florida State]
4.) David Amerson [FS/CB; North Carolina State]
5.) DeMarcus Milliner [CB; Alabama]
6.) Carrington Byndom [CB; Texas]
7.) Michah Hyde [CB; Iowa]
8.) Johnny Adams [CB; Michigan State]
9.) Jordan Poyer [CB; Oregon State]
10.) Desmond Trufant [CB; Washington] _________________

He came on late last year, so I'm a bit skeptical of the success and wanting to see if it translates over to this year. Of the ten listed, he probably has the most room to go up. _________________

I'm assuming you're referring to Jake Knott and A.J. Klein. I feel they're more likely to find their niche as backups and on special teams. Not sure either has the skill set to be a starter in the NFL. _________________

Finally someone who sees what I see in Justin Gilbert. I've had him pegged as a 2nd round guy for a good time now and he's omitted from several top draft sites. _________________

Just seems to have a nose for the ball. I got a chance to see him play against LSU, and I was extremely impressed with what I saw. I didn't see a guy who was getting mauled by the big Tigers offensive nor that was overwhelmed by what was a clearly superior team. He's not afraid to show up in run support, but I don't recall seeing him in coverage a whole lot. Last year was his first year where he was in the line up consistently and he had a huge year. Got great size and I almost want to compare him to D.J. Smith, the former Appalachian State linebacker, who had a insane nose for the ball. _________________

Absolutely. I'm not enamored in the slightest by Xavier Rhodes or David Amerson. I just was underwhelmed when I watched Rhodes play. Looks like an NFL player, but just doesn't seem special when you put the tape on. I don't think he's more than a #2 corner at the next level. When I saw Amerson play, I saw a guy who was always a step too slow and afraid of coming up in run support. If you're not willing to come up in run support, it's doubtful that you'll be willing to get physical with a receiver. He's either a pure zone corner or he's going to need to make the transition to free safety when he gets to the NFL. Gilbert has the best combination of size, speed, and skillset to be an impact player in the NFL. _________________

Not really a fan of Commings. He's a bigger, slower corner who probably needs to move to safety in the NFL. Probably not a whole lot of talent there since he doesn't have a huge nose for the ball. And then there are the character red flags that will need to be checked out before a team invests a pick in him. I like Smith a bit more, but I think he's a bit light. Might be relegated to nickel or dime back if he comes up small/light at the combine. _________________

This year's safety class looks significantly better than last year's, so if you're in need of a safety you're likely going to be able to find a decent one. Eric Reid had a big year and broke out big time, I want to see another strong year and he'll likely be a top 15 pick. Tony Jefferson has been the leader of the Sooners defense last year when Travis Lewis was injured. T.J. McDonald and Kenny Vaccaro both come from great programs and should be pretty good safeties at the next level. Robert Lester is a better safety than his teammate, Mark Barron, was last year, but shouldn't go nearly as high.
1.) Eric Reed [S; LSU]
2.) Tony Jefferson [S; Oklahoma]
3.) David Amerson [FS/CB; North Carolina State]
4.) T.J. McDonald [S; USC]
5.) Kenny Vaccaro [S; Texas]
6.) Robert Lester [S; Alabama]
7.) Matt Elam [S; Florida]
8.) Tyrann Mathieu [CB/S; LSU]
9.) Baccari Rambo [S; Georgia]
10.) Xavier Rhodes [CB/S; Florida State] _________________
