Ravens left tackle Bryant McKinnie has been a no-show so far at training camp, but he says he’s on his way. McKinnie told the Baltimore Sun in a text message that he’ll report on Monday. He’s being fined $30,000 a day while he stays home, so he has a strong financial incentive to return.

Realistically, unless McKinnie has resigned himself to being broke for the rest of his life, he can’t afford not to work: He’s been ordered to pay $4.3 million to a company that gave him a loan during the lockout last year, and he has apparently wasted almost all of the tens of millions of dollars he’s made in his NFL career. McKinnie is going to be a professional football player or he’s going to be broke.

Bryant McKinnie’s back in Baltimore, with an apparently bad back. McKinnie told Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times he’s been missing from Ravens camp because he slipped and fell outside his South Florida home and twisted his lower back.

McKinnie: “I had an accident. I’m over it. I’m here to play football. Of course, I’m glad to be back. I’m kind of disappointed, though. I’ve been training hard, I’ve been boxing and doing all this stuff. To have a setback like this is disappointing."

“Why isn’t anybody saying I got hurt? I don’t know what people thought was going on. How I got hurt is running out of the house. It was slippery and I fell and hurt my lower back. You can’t be playing football when your back is hurting. When I fell, I said, ‘I know I ain’t going out like this.’”

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Ravens have already fined the absent left tackle $30,000 for failing to report on Wednesday’s check-in day. McKinnie has missed Thursday and Friday’s practices as well, for reasons the Ravens have left vaguely defined as “personal reasons.”

Now he is the Ravens problem.

How he stayed with the Vikings for so long is why we are having this painful rebuild.

If I recall correctly, that's the same reason why he supposedly missed the Pro Bowl that one year. I buy that injury reason about as much as I buy into any political ad on TV right now.

What a bum. He's an embarrassment to himself and his family.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/08/06/ravens-will-garnish-half-of-mckinnies-net-wages/

Quote:
According to the Baltimore Business Journal, the Ravens will withhold half of McKinnie’s net compensation this year and send it to the lending agency to which McKinnie allegedly owed a whopping $4.5 million.

Per the report, the lawsuit was settled on July 17. The agreement provides that Pro Player Funding will receive half of the net on McKinnie’s $3.2 million salary, and half of any future earnings from the Ravens.

Did he try and force his release by holding out to get out of this settlement?

Bucs coach Greg Schiano didn’t elaborate Wednesday when he announced defensive end Jayme Mitchell left the team.

But Mitchell’s agent did.

Lamont Smith told Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times that Mitchell was dissatisfied with his role on the team and “didn’t feel it was a good fit for him.”

I'd take him back, our depth isn't that great.

Former Viking Tarvaris Jackson has to wonder if he should feel complimented or angry about the decision made by Seattle coach Pete Carroll for the playing time breakdown for Seattle’s first preseason game Saturday against Tennessee. Carroll announced that free agent Matt Flynn will start and play the first half and hinted that rookie Russell Wilson would play the entire second half – effectively leaving T-Jack on the sidelines looking in. The party line being given is that the Seahawks already know what they have in Jackson. However, if Flynn and/or Wilson tear it up, Jackson will drop in the estimation of coaches without even being given the opportunity to make his own case.

Id rather see what Reed and Guyton can show in the preseason, if anything. Perhaps if they dont feel comfortable with one of those two as the 3rd or 4th DE (depending on where Griffen plays).

Guyton is strictly being used as a 3-tech DT. We have Reed and Jeff Charleston and then Everson Griffin as a tweener. I guess Ballard is tweener too but would likely only play left end.

Not exactly great depth.

Last year, after the Seahawks signed former Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, Seattle coach Pete Carroll said that Tarvaris had been “jerked around” in Minnesota. G.M. John Schneider was slightly more descriptive, saying that Jackson had been “[expletive] on.” (To his credit, Schneider owned the remark and apologized to the Vikings for it.)

Fast forward to 2012. Jackson, the starter for the Seahawks in 2011, now finds himself in a three-man quarterback competition that shows no signs of being resolved in the immediate future. So does that constitute being “jerked around” or “[expletive] on”? Or both?

Regardless of the label, Carroll admitted on Tuesday that Jackson is getting a little frustrated.

Carroll: “I think this is very difficult for him and I admire the heck out of this guy. These guys [Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson] are battling to show what they know and where they are, and we have to assess that they can catch up with him. That’s what’s going on. So he’ll have to hold on for a little bit longer, and we’ll know more in a week.”

hey Pete, if that's not jerking around Jackson, then i don't know what is.
