Peter King is visiting every training camp in the NFL and he visited Tampa last Thursday. He definitely noticed the change in the overall feel of our practice. The video was short, but it had some good stuff in there as well.

You don't want to work hard, you're in the wrong place." Even if you're around the team for just one day, as I am, you get the sense the players and staff are thrilled for a more organized coach than Raheem Morris, and a more disciplined one. |
He also had some more stuff to say about the Bucs in this week's MMQB

| Quote: | | Three football nuggets: Dallas Clark's healthy -- for now -- and looking like a good security blanket for Josh Freeman ... Jeremy Zuttah's transition from left guard to center has gone well in the wake of the Jeff Faine firing ... With two rookie backs (Doug Martin of Boise State, Michael Smith of Utah State) impressing early, LeGarrette Blount has some pressure to keep his carries (184 last year) at the same level. Blount's taking the challenge seriously, but Martin may be a better all-around player anyway. |

That was a short run for Coffman. |
I think Coffman was brought in as a favor to Freeman (he and Chase Coffman seem to be good friends from following his twitter). Coffman was a 3rd round draft pick from two years ago and obviously must not bring much to the table if after only one year of drafting him the Bengals drafted Jermaine Grisham, and he could not beat out Zach for that 3rd tight end spot it could be a cause for concern. _________________

Glad to see Derrick Brooks back at OBP though. Makes it seem like it was more about Rah than Dom at this point. I know he is busy being par towner of the arena league team in Tampa, but I would love to see him around more and more. Was surprised to see that he says the team is more talented than the 96 squad. I think at more positions we have talent but I don't think we have anyone at the level of Brooks or Sapp, or at least it's way to early to even consider that but if anyone could, hopefully it's Lavonte and McCoy. Maybe Barron, David and McCoy can be our trio. _________________

I think Adrian Clayborn is another up-and-comer who could potentially put up double-digit sack seasons. The guy has a great motor and if McCoy can show us he's the real deal, then that just makes things easier for Clayborn. _________________

Just a few notes from my last day at camp.
- Myron Lewis seems to be the #3 CB right now. Now this could just be Schiano testing him out in different situations but it doesnt seem like it. Lewis made some nice plays Saturday at the night practice and continued to do so Monday. Talib was held out of practice with a minor hammy pull and Lewis was running with the starting D across from Eric Wright at CB.
- Tallent is there but I get a bad vibe from Eric Wright. This could all just be me over thinking it but Wright just gives me a bad feeling at times. He seems to be a pretty good CB during practice but when on the sidelines, he seems to be kneeling behind everyone, by himself more times than not. Like he is secluding himself. It wasnt until Myron Lewis came over to him today that he then got in a group of DBs to talk with when on the sidelines. Plus, he just always seems to have to jump and dance around after making a play. Mainly saw this at the night practice. Could just be his personality. Im just hoping thats the case and he doesnt still have a Detroit mindset if you know what I mean.
- Dallas Clark was a spectacular pickup. I really think him and Freeman are connecting, not just on the field, but off as friends. This should help Freeman in a number of ways. Especially when Freeman and Clark were on the sidelines during the night practice, they always seemed to be talking together or throwing the ball to warm Freeman up or something. Really seems like they are building a good relationship. Oh, and Clark still is a really good pass catcher.
- Martin had a few nifty runs at the night practice. He continues to look real good and like the lead dog in the RB battle with Blount. On one run he jumped through a hole at the LOS and shot downfield and made a nice move for extra yardage. Would have been at least a 20+ yard run in a real game. Martin is also very agile. Made one defender lose his jock on another run later in the night.
- I really believe that Mike Williams will have a 2010 type season. The dude just looks great. Catching everything and usually making the tough grabs.
- Dan Orlovsky will win games for us if need be but we will be in a world of hurt if Ratliff ever sees the field.
- I see Lavonte David battling Mark Barron for DROY. Both players should be among the few considered for the award at the end of the season. David continues to get penetration and make smart and instinctive plays.
- If McCoy can stay healthy I think our D will make a HUGE jump in total D. McCoy, and Clayborn both, are getting penetration and making difference making plays in the backfield, if this was a real game situation at least. _________________

Lil' Shorty, I have enjoyed all of your input and observations regarding the Bucs at practice. Some of the players that I had questions about you have been addressing, nice job, thanks. |

Roy Miller is listed as the starter.....
Ugh, this is the problem I had with trading Price away. Miller has been a non factor since he landed here, not once has he done anything, and now he is a starter?? _________________

With new coaching staff and a different scheme we might see a different type of a player. Right now he is starting though but I don't think that means much when Gary Gibson and Amobi Okoye will get reps too. Roy is having a better training camp from what I'm told. We'll see how he plays this year but yeah, we might have to upgrade that #2 DT spot in the 2013 draft if he becomes a liability. |

Im not necessarily surprised that Blount is listed as the #1. Ive noticed that ever since Martin's fumble on the Friday practice that Blount was getting more of the #1 carries. It was split more 50/50 and Blount would lead off. However, like most, I think Martin will be the week 1 starter.
Kinda pissed Lorig is still listed as the #1 FB. The dude is horrible. Really would like Cody Johnson to win that job but I guess its still early.
As far as our DL goes. Im pretty confident that we will pick up someone else's player they cut from DL to replace some of our backups. Like the Eagles are heavy on DL and might cut Tapp. Id take him. But, as far as DT goes, if McCoy goes down, we are getting run on heavy again this year. He is all we have. 1st or 2nd round pick next year will be DT.
Lavonte David really seems to be picking it up fast and Im glad he is on the starting D. Who else do we have? But even if we had some better WLB competition I still think David would be a starter on this depth chart.
Anthony Gaitor! Happy for that dude. Never really talked about him much but he has been playing well during camp and fully deserves to be in that backup roll to Wright. _________________

Only thing is, he's probably going in the top-5, and I really hope we aren't picking there this year. But I'd say he's worth trading up for if need be. And him and McCoy would make a great duo. And with Clayborn, Bennett, and hopefully a healthy Bowers on the other end, the defensive line would appear to be a pretty complete group. _________________

This guy would be a nice compliment to McCoy. | Sign me up. As far as I'm concerned the offense is complete. We could use a significant upgrade at RT and TE but even that being a weakness won't be detrimental to our overall success. So with that said, I'm ALL for building a championship caliber defense to compliment McCoy, David, Talib, Barron, Bowers, and Clayborn. We grab Star in the first round. Maybe Jelaini Jenkins in round 2 to replace Black, and round three draft a DE just for the heck of it. |
