I think they are hurt big time by the fact that they get no competitive football during the year (I think it hurts the entire Oceania region as it stands).
The results from NZ stem from the fact that they more than likely went into the game expecting to steamroll over them and took their opposition lightly and it cost them big time. That and the playing conditions were terrible. Temperatures were in the early 40's celcius for every game with near 100% humidity and the pitches were terrible. However as the cliche goes it was the same for both teams.
Biggest issue with folding Oceania and merging it into Asia is money. Tahiti and the like can barely afford to travel to play NZ in NZ let alone to play two legged games in the middle east.
NZ has potential, but we need to stop playing 3 at the back long ball football.
I hope we actually show some quality at the Olympics and we have a few solid young players coming through like Cameron Howieson who made his first team debut for Burnley this season at 17, and Tim Payne who is on the books at Blackburn. |
NZ should qualify. I'd be very surprised if they lose the playoff against the 4th best team from CONCACAF. Their playoff will be against somebody like Costa Rica or Honduras. |
Costa Rica and Honduras are easily better than New Zealand. Whoever finished fourth in CONCACAF will beat New Zealand. _________________

Well NZ just beat Honduras 1-0 in Dallas and drew with them in NZ a while back. They also drew 2-2 with El Salvador in Houston last month.
And that was with the likes of Keat/Nelson/Reid missing from the lineup. _________________ Patrick Peterson - 92 targets, 40 catches allowed, 602 yards, 6 TD's, 7 INT's

| Didn't really notice until now but just quietly Qatar actually have a decent chance to qualifying for Brazil. They just need to finish second in their group to quality for 2014 and their main competition is from Uzbekistan and Iran, so it's doable. Pretty funny considering all the hate that's come their way. |

On a less homerific note
I saw a few highlights of this tourney. Afobe looked good for England and finished as their top scorer. They were knocked out by a 10 man Greece in the Semi AET. Greece had their GK sent off just before HT. England missed the ensuing penalty.
Giorgis Katidis looked very good from midfield for the Greeks could be a hot prospect sooner rather than later. _________________ Patrick Peterson - 92 targets, 40 catches allowed, 602 yards, 6 TD's, 7 INT's

I saw the Final. Rodriguez was actually rather poor and wasteful, but apparently he has had a really good tournament. I thought Jose Campana was the pick of the bunch; reminded me of a Xabi Alonso type player in midfield. Gerard Deulofeu looked dangerous too, and put the goal on a plate for Rodriguez.
I also saw Paul Pogba bag twice against Spain too in the Semi Final _________________ 20 TIMES, 20 TIMES MAN UNITTTTTEEDDD

Think I'd prefer it if the stripe was green instead of yellow. _________________

GK sent off for Germany as Messi is about to take the penalty. Ter Stegen on.
Edit: Peno saved, poor shot. _________________
