I love John Skelton. Love what I saw from him in that game against us. I don't know why any of you would be rooting for Kolb. _________________

1 - Because Kolb reads defenses pre-snap, Skelton does not.
2 - Because Kolb does not walk into the huddle and call plays wrong, Skelton does.
Skelton is so far ahead physically, but the opposite is true when you look at the two of them mentally. _________________ Patrick Peterson - 92 targets, 40 catches allowed, 602 yards, 6 TD's, 7 INT's

I'm not rooting for anybody, even though I don't for even a second buy the Kolb hate that's constantly spewed on the internet but if I'm "rooting" for Kolb it's because Kevin Kolb is a Cardinal and I'm a Cardinals fan. I'd rather not see a Cardinal, any Cardinal, fall flat on his face.
At this point, I don't who care who starts for us week 1. I just want whoever it is to play well. _________________

It's true Kolb is ahead of Skelton as far as football IQ goes but I wouldn't say mentally he's farther ahead. He knows the plays, X's and O's better and all that but mentally I think he's half a train-wreck. He either hesitates to throw the ball or escapes the pocket at the first sign of pressure. I think Kolb's biggest problem is that he thinks too much. Skelton on the other has the gunslinger mentality. He may not know the plays as well or read defense pre-snap but the guy just plays football and doesn't take as many unnecessary sacks or escape the pocket and throw the ball away because of that. |

Any of you guys seen this garbage? It was in the Seahawks forum. I clicked the link, but got an error message. They are discussing it like it was legit. My apologies in advance if it turns out to be fake. (It's working now)

Personally, I think Tarvaris = Skelton minus the familiarity with the offense. Both have big arms & still make judgement errors, but Tarvaris is more mobile. I wouldn't want him - can't believe any Cardinals players would either. I mean, it's not exactly a secret that he can't be relied on. At least Skelton still has some unknown amount of upside. _________________

Team looking to trade QB?
Who is a team struggling to find a QB that works for them?
Team B would love to trade for QB A!!!!! _________________ Patrick Peterson - 92 targets, 40 catches allowed, 602 yards, 6 TD's, 7 INT's

That would be one thing, but you don't find it interesting that he specifically says the players would welcome Tarvaris? Wonder what that's all about. _________________

He works out with a lot of our players, it's no big surprise. Players have friendships with other players and would always like to play alongside those friends. Doesn't mean much of anything.
If it did, Donovan McNabb would have a Cardinal about, oh, 3 years ago. _________________

Last I checked Fitz was a big part in getting Kolb here. Hopefully the FO has learned its lesson in listening to players when it comes to adding/subtracting players. _________________

Fitz had all the leverage at that time with an expiring contract...now... _________________ Patrick Peterson - 92 targets, 40 catches allowed, 602 yards, 6 TD's, 7 INT's

This. Plus, Whiz liked Kolb and Whiz wanted Kolb. People think it was all "Fitz wanted Kolb, end of story" but it's not. Whiz wanted Kolb just as much as anybody.
If Whiz wants Tavarris Jackson, we've got ourselves a story. If he doesn't, we don't. _________________

Sorry was not trying to put all the blame on Fitz. Was just making a point that just because the players like him does not mean he's already buying a ticket to Phx _________________

| Sad thing is.. T. Jack put up better numbers last season than Skelton or Kolb. Granted, if Skelton or Kolb played more games last season it could of been different. |

Tarvaris Jackson, Kyle Orton, Meh.
Swapping the 29th or 30th best QB in the league for 27th or 26th best isn't going to make that much of a difference.
The Cardinals need to either dramatically improve the personnel at the position or hope Skelton or Kolb improves.
Guys like Jackson and Orton are known commodities and have limited upside.....wait, no upside.
They are the type of players you bring in while your 1st round pick learns the playbook, not to turn the franchise around.
The Cardinals took a chance in trading for Kolb, rather than go through a litany of Bubby Bristers.
Unfortunately, it does not appear to be working out.
At the time, however, he looked to be the best long term solution for a franchise QB.
Plus, the Cards needed to do something after Matt Leinart turned out to be, well, Leinart.
In defense of the move, I don't think anybody saw Kolb playing as poorly as he has.
Furthermore, the situation does not seem to suit him.
The running game has been erratic and the pass blocking atrocious.
But, if you look at the potential replacements around the league they leave you pretty much where you started.
Tarvaris Jackson, Dennis Dixon, Trent Edwards, Kyle Boller, etc. you may as well just call Brett Favre.
I think the safest bet is to name Skelton the starter now as he has clearly played better of the two.
If Kolb steps up when he gets a chance, fine. If not, cut your losses.
You can't have him auditoning forever and you can't let the size of the contract determine who plays.
Plus, maybe Skelton breaks out this year.
Or maybe not. |
