The Art of a Dynasty:
Packer Forum Fantasy Football League 2012
Introduction
Hello everyone! Welcome to the discussion forum of the Packer Forum Fantasy League. As some of you may know, Waldo headed an impressive league that used several unique features to not only separate itself from the average league, but to enhance the process and ensure that it was an enjoyable experience from the draft to the final championship game. It is my hope that we can create a league similar in style that surpasses Waldo's in enjoyment, namely by eliminating potential owners who abandon their team due to injuries, poor luck, or personal issues. With this being said, I welcome you all to what I expect will be the most exciting and involved league to date.
Format
The domain chosen for this year’s league is FleaFlicker. Although some users expressed disinterest in FF, I felt it was necessary given the universal enjoyment and flexibility in using the draft process on Football's Future rather than ESPN. This way, each member can have ample time to select a player, trade the selection, or consider his team's needs given the flow of the draft. Like I said earlier, FleaFlicker provides the most entertainment because of its ability to import specific rosters rather than drafting in one set time period.
The league will consist of 16 teams distributed across 4 divisions. There will be a 14 week regular season and 3 week playoff. The top two teams in the league will receive a "bye-week" and an automatic position in the semi-finals. The other four members will battle each other in the quarters with the 3rd seed taking on the 6the seed for a chance to meet the 2nd overall seed in the semi-finals, while the 4th seed will play the 5th seed with a match-up against the top overall seed on the line. With the 14 weeks, each team will play its division opponent twice (for 6 games) and then eight other games that are randomized but not duplicated.
Scoring
The scoring will also be similar to last year with a few minor changes.
Quarterbacks:
*1 pt for 30 Yards
1 pt for 400+ Yards
2 pts for 2 Point Conversion Passing
4 pts for Passing TD
2 pts for Passing TD of 80 or more Yards
-2 pts for every Interception
Rushing:
1 pt for 10 Yards
1 pt for 150+ Yards
2 pts for 2 Point Conversion Rushing
6 pts for Rushing TD
2 pts for Rushing TD of 80 or more Yards
Receiving:
1 pt for 10 Yards
1 pt for 2 Receptions
1 pt for 150+ Yards
2 pts for 2 Point Conversion Receiving
6 pts for Receiving Touchdown
2 pts for Receiving TD of 80 or more Yards
Miscellaneous:
-1 pt for Fumble
**-2 pts for Fumble Lost
Kicking:
3 pts for Field Goal Made
1 pt for Field Goal of 50 or more Yards
1 pt for Extra Point
***-2 pts for Field Goal Missed of 40 or less Yards
Returning:
6 pts for Kick and Punt Return TD
Defense:
****4 pts for INT
1 pt for Sack
1 pt for Forced Fumble
2 pts for Recovered Fumble
4 pts for Safety
6 pts for Defensive TD
*****3 pts when 7 or less points are allowed
*A small increase from 25 yards to compensate for NFL's dramatic shift in passing attempts and new defensive limitations.
**A fumble lost typically results in points lost for player's team and points gained for opposing team. Thus, a penalty needs to be enforced for fumble prone all offensive players.
***A field goal of less than 40 yards is typically automatic in today's league. A miss represents a loss of points that are usually a safe bet. This will penalize kickers with a surplus of attempts but a low percentage.
****An interception in today's league represents a momentum shift, a loss of points for the offensive team, and potential points for the defensive team. This is an important play and the four points will reward the defense accordingly.
*****With today's shift in scoring and yardage, a defense that shuts its opponent down to under a touchdown indicates a strong performance and most often a win. An extra 3 points is a fair reward.
If there are any questions or concerns regarding the scoring, let me know. All of this is preliminary. I feel confident with this system and it makes for a fair standard of play.
Draft
The draft will take place from August 2nd to the last week of the pre- season. Many members were upset last year with injuries occurring during training camp or preseason following said player being drafted. Waldo initiated a rule that allowed a player who was severely injured to be dropped and replaced immediately with a player of the owner's choice (making a selection while not being on the clock). While this was somewhat appropriate given the nature of the situation, it wasn't always a great solution.
With that being said, I have determined that the following rule will ensure that a draft taking place during August will not hinder an owner's regular season chances due to mitigating circumstances (namely injuries).
If a player selected in the first round is injured severely during training camp or the preseason (IR), the owner who selected that player will be allowed to select two players immediately (with its last draft selection being forfeited). A player selected in the second round and beyond will result in a selection of one player whenever the owner chooses. However, the owner in question must alert the commissioner prior to doing this via PM.
In my eyes, the above rule is cut and dry. If a player is placed on the IR, he can be dropped and replaced immediately. The specificity of the rule with respect to first round selections makes this a crucial rule to compensate for injuries. Furthermore, if a player is placed on PUP, that player can be kept and placed on the team's IR (one spot for each owner) and replaced immediately as well.
Now, in terms of the draft itself, each selection in rounds one to three will have a maximum of eight hours on the clock. Since these are typically the most important rounds, more time will be awarded. With each round after, the selection will be made in five hours. If a selection is meant to occur overnight (for example, on the clock from 10 pm to 6 am), the selection must be made by 8 am central time. Back to back selections (#16 and #17) must be made in the allotted time (i.e not 16 or 10 hours).
In the event that an owner is not present for his or her selection, he or she will be skipped until they are able to make a selection. However, if that owner is aware of circumstances that may or may not allow for a selection, he can alert me via PM with a list of players (up to 10) that would be acceptable for the selection, in which I will make the selection when the clock ends.
Overview:
Rounds 1-3: 8 hours OTC
Rounds 4-16: 5 hours OTC
Roster
Each team will be comprised of 15 players with one IR slot. The minimum requirements, or starters, with maximums in parentheses are as follows:
QB: 1 (4)
RB: 2 (6)
WR: 2 (7)
TE: 2 (3)
K: 1 (3)
DEF/ST: 1 (3)
There will be six bench players as well.
Waivers/Trades/Roster Settings
These settings are fairly universal. The team with the worst record will have the first opportunity to put in a bid for a player on waivers (a three day period). The order goes in ascending order to the best record.
Trades will be allowed with no deadlines.
A player's position will be locked in at his respective game time.
Finally, reserve a spot within the first 16 posts (meaning don't post twice until after) to have an updated post for your roster as I have done below. _________________
