Reacting to the struggles of former Pro Bowl kicker Billy Cundiff, the Washington Redskins are signing former UCLA kicker Kai Forbath today, according to a league source.

Forbath tried out for the Redskins today along with Olindo Mare and Josh Brown.

Cundiff is expected to be released today. He was cut by the Baltimore Ravens during the preseason after being beaten out by rookie kicker Justin Tucker.

Bye bye, Graham Gano.

Huge improvement for the Skins.

I wouldn't really call it a "huge" improvement, but an improvement nonetheless. They were nearly identical in percentage last season, but Cundiff held the clear advantage from inside the 50, while Gano held the clear advantage of 50+.

This may have been reported wrong (much like the report yesterday that Barnes was cut and then later it turned out he was traded).

According to a few posters in the Redskins forum, they brought in Cundiff, but Gano is not cut.

He was released... Gano himself said so.

Cool. Didn't see Gano's remarks. Its a mistake to replace him with Cundif, but I don't get to make those decisions.

Most Ravens fans werent happy with him well before that shank in the AFCCG, but I don't think that the general football fan would think of him as a bad kicker

Yes, he was all sorts of pimped going into last season due to all the touchbacks. He is the scapegoat for that AFCCG loss.

Right, and then the NFL decided to essentially negate 50% of his worth by instituting the new kick-off rules prior to the start of the 2011 season. Then Cundiff went to to regress from the year before, where he made over close to 90% of his FGs in 2010, he made a meager 76% of them in 2011.

So no, the missed field goal in the AFCCG was just the icing on top. Fans were displeased with his performance and contributions well before that.

I hated Cundiff ever since he missed that kick in the NFC Championship game against the Bears when it was just 14-16 and lost all the momentum we had.

Gano is young with rare leg strength - pretty much hate this personnel decision.
