Not sure if the mods will sticky this or not (it would be cool if they would), but I will try and keep this thread updated with individual prospect profiles

Thanks A86! Make sure to check back in because I will be continually updating this from the prospect profiles in the KC forum and in the Draft forum.

I gotta say, it sucks to watch my Hogs lose again, but with every game Tyler Wilson misses, it increases the chances of the Chiefs having the chance to draft him. The thought of Wilson under center for us is effin' awesome.

I wasn't going to do profiles on players that are not eligible for the 2013 draft. Bridgewater is a true sophomore IIRC. As far as Hunt goes, I probably will do one, but I have also heard he is really struggling to make an impact on the field for SMU this year. By appearances he has not been able to take the next step and translate his top-tier athletic ability into an impact on the field. It sounds like his big issue is lack of technique and fundamentals and that is allowing him to be consistently neutralized. It looks like his lack of experience playing organized football is slowing down his progress.

Ry,
I definitely agree on Wilson. He is my #1 prospect for the Chiefs. He brings everything we are missing from our starting quarterback right now. On just the physical ability - he has good mobility, a strong arm, good accuracy, and consistently locates the ball so that the receiver gets the pass in stride and doesn't have to redirect or adjust in their route. On the other attributes (and just as important as the physical) I love his determination and no quit attitude. He has shown he can rally the team and isn't afraid to stand in the pocket and take a hit to make a completion. He isn't afraid to push the ball down the field when the opportunity presents itself but he also will consistently take what the defese will allow.

Two cornerback prospects I am interested in would be Virginia Tech junior Kyle Fuller and San Diego State senior Leon McFadden. Both excel in press man coverage, which I think we do better as a defense when our cornerbacks can play up on the receiver instead of 10 yards off.

I really like Fuller alot and have come away impressed with him when I have had a chance to watch the Hokies this year. Last year he played closer to the line of scrimmage and actually was used essentially as a linebacker and he was able to make an impact with around 14 tackles for loss and 4 sacks. He is physical but also able to hang with receivers on the outside. I think he has a real chance of being one of the top cornerbacks in the 2013 draft if he declares. If Tyler Wilson is off of the board when we select, I would not be opposed to adding a top-tier cornerback in round 1, and I think Fuller would be a very good fit for us.

Leon McFadden is another quality cornerback prospect that isn't getting as much attention as some of the other prospects that play for bigger programs. At the end of the day, depending on what eligible underclassmen declare, I think McFadden could be a prospect that moves up draft boards.

RVM, thanks!

I will add, again depending on what eligible underclassmen declare, this draft could be really good especially in the top 2 rounds to grab a quality cornerback.

My top 10 as of this time would look like this :

Xavier Rhodes, Florida State (Junior), 6’-1”, 217 lbs.
Kyle Fuller, Virginia Tech (Junior), 6’-0”, 193 lbs.
Dee Milliner, Alabama (Junior), 6’-1”, 198 lbs.
Johnthan Banks, Mississippi State (Senior), 6’-1”, 185 lbs.
Justin Gilbert, Oklahoma State (Junior), 6’-0”, 195 lbs.
Logan Ryan, Rutgers (Junior), 6’-0”, 190 lbs.
Leon McFadden, San Diego State (Senior), 5’-10”, 190 lbs.
Jordan Poyer, Oregon State (Senior), 5’-11”, 190 lbs.
Carrington Byndom, Texas (Junior), 6’-0”, 185 lbs.
Terry Hawthorne, Illinois (Senior), 6’-0”, 190 lbs.

I think all of those prospects have the ability to receive a 1st round grade. Of course it is unlikely that all the underclassmen listed will declare and not all prospects that have a 1st round grade will necessarily be drafted in round 1.

I didn’t include North Carolina State junior cornerback David Amerson and Iowa senior cornerback Micah Hyde because at this point I think both project better at free safety than cornerback at the NFL level. Both could play the cornerback position in the NFL but I do think they could project better at free safety.

I also have a preference for cornerbacks that have played press man coverage atleast on occasion at the college level. From what I have seen from prospects like Rhodes, Milliner, Fuller, McFadden, Ryan, and Hawthorne they have played press man and have the ability to stick with the receiver in coverage. Other players like Banks, Gilbert, and Byndom for example, seem to play alot of off-man (from what I have been able to watch) and especially for Gilbert and Byndom, I think both could handle either press man or off man coverage assignments but just don't seem to do as much press man as some of the other prospects.

I talked about my opinion that Eric Berry could be a position to make more of a consistent impact in our defense if he is allowed to use his range and playmaking skills as a coverage safety :

http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=500054

Personally, I prefer two safeties that in some respects are interchangeable. While Lewis is nowhere near Berry from a physical ability standpoint he does have solid range largely because of his anticipation and recognition skills.

If we kept both as more traditional safeties while allowing Berry to be used closer to the line of scrimmage or farther back, we could add a long term safety that could play closer to the line of scrimmage to help against the run and handle pass coverage assignments.

One prospect that would potentially fit that need would be Syracuse senior strong safety Shamarko Thomas. Check out his profile link above.

Pfft, OK, fine, be like that.

I wasn't aware at the time that Bridgewater wasn't eligible. Wink

LOL

Bigs, I really do like Bridgewater alot! IF we pass on a QB in 2013 and go with Cassell again, we might have a shot at drafting Bridgewater #1 overall!

I think it will likely come down to Bridgewater and Clowney as the #1 overall pick in 2014.

I really was hoping Hunt would take the next step in his development this year, but combined with age and lack of development at this point, I am not sure Hunt offers a whole lot of projected impact unless a team has a ton of patience. He could still turn it around this year though.
