So we're three games in, what facet of our game do you see for improvement?
Is it our pass protection? Timing between the quarterback in the receiver? Or is the lack of cohesiveness in the secondary a large portion to blame?
Personally, I think the timing between our quarterback and receivers are off. Aaron Rodgers looks remarkably human, and our wide receivers aren't getting much in terms of YAC. _________________

Receivers need to get separation and Rodgers needs to start getting rid of the ball quicker in my opinion. Those two go hand in hand though, Rodgers is holding the ball too long because WR's aren't getting open. He hit tight windows last year but you can't consistently ask your QB to be perfect every throw.
The fact that our offense is at it's most effective when we are running the ball consistently says something to me....Rodgers isn't playing well, the receivers aren't playing well, and McCarthy hasn't adapted his offense at all. Just like the defense from 2010 to 2011, there isn't a single change and teams had an entire offseason to study our game plan/habits. _________________ @PJHotel_ |

DJ Williams, Randall Cobb but are new wrinkles to the offense and the team was one of the best offenses in NFL history last season. Why would you want to make many changes to that? I just don't think anyone could of predicted the impact of the replacement refs on offenses across the league. The passing offense relies on the receivers being able to use their legs and body control for separation, there has been way too much contact downfield to allow for the receivers to get up to speed and to get in and out of their breaks cleanly. If it takes an extra second for the receivers to get where they need to be, that puts Rodgers in a worse situation with pressure and really negates the speed advantage which this team has on offense. _________________

True, but perfect execution should still yield the same offensive output. Look at Conversions packers...teams couldn't stop em. Same plays, prefect execution.
For me, it is the blocking. AR is hearing footsteps. Guys need to hold their blocks _________________

| There is a lot IMO. I think play calling is a big one. I want to see us get other teams in their sub-packages and run the ball with Cobb. We need to go into a game and have a strong running game. We haven't hit a PA bomb all year. Interior pass rush still a bit concerning but as a unit the defense has been damn impressive. |

Guys need to hold their blocks | I'm glad you mentioned this, as it reminded me of something I noticed Monday and was wondering if anyone else felt the same. It seemed that the Seahawks, particularly Bruce Irvin going against Bryan Bulaga would go straight for the lineman's headgear. I don't recall it ever allowed to that extent, perhaps because of all the pressure and replays I just noticed it more. Just seemed that Bruce Irvin in particular made no effort to keep his hands down. _________________

| What I have seen is the offensive line has been terrible at times and not very good overall. Brain Bulaga has been terrible and Marshall Newhouse has been just ok. The guard play has been decent with still too many breakdowns. Aaron Rodgers is still adjusting to how defenses are playing him this year and I do think we saw him turn that corner in the second half of this last game. Coaching has been inconsistent on offense and MM waited way too long to adjust to the coverage Seattle was deploying. This is a team that badly needs a bounce back week and I believe they will take it to the Saints who seem to be having a lot of trouble. |

Passing game in general. Maybe even offense. We have good run blocking but we aren't ever going to get more than vanilla runs by Benson. Our passing game is full of poor pass blocking and the receivers can't seem to get separation and when they do they drop passes. _________________

Hands down MM has to do a better job.
It's been my pet peeve since last year when I tried to find his rhyme or reason for the running game by charting all the games and found out he has none. He has been outcoached in two of the first three games this year.
He has to run the football. He has become very good at saying he needs to run the ball, but he still refuses come game time. At this pace he is going to have Rodgers in a body bag by week 5. Way too many empty shotgun plays on early downs and way too much John Kuhn running pass routes on third downs. And when that blue moon does appear, he has Benson running that damn stretch play which not only doesn't fit Benson's style, but I don't think that play has gained a yard in 5 years. Put Benson in the "I" where he belongs and punish some people. Going shotgun and handing Benson the ball is a wasted play, and its tired. MM should be light years smarter than that and yet .....
We all saw how much better the line looked when MM decided to start running the ball between the tackles in the third quarter last week. You simply can't have your lineman backpedalling all game long every single game. I put zero blame for last week on the line. And even with the success he had in the third quarter, he abandoned it again in the fourth quarter.
Rodgers has said numerous times that defenses are playing soft, protecting against the pass. I don't know which brick wall has to fall upon MM's head, but we are fast approaching mid-season and this problem still exists, a holdover from all of last season.
For me, I'd love to praise him for the Cobb formation, but there are so many other boneheaded plays, calls and formations that it is easily overshadowed. This is beyond being a trend, and I am fearful that he just refuses to change. Hell he makes Holmgren look conservative. Holmgren always had a little twist or angle or play in the running game to keep things fresh. As far as I can see, MM has stretch left, stretch right, both of which has us losing yards and zone middle. He needs to put on a few reels of some of the running plays we ran back in the day. I hate to say those words, but he is so stale in the run game its beyond words. _________________

Could it be lack of game reps as well? Rodgers played very sparingly in preseason, in part because Herb Taylor was only a little more effective than I would have been at LT*. The offense is very impatient as well, always has been. This team doesn't like to dink and dunk. One of Rodgers' positives is also working as a negative so far this season, and we saw this in 08 as well. He holds the ball too long. This helps keep ints down, but if protection is poor, he takes a lot of sacks.
*Ok, I would be much worse than Taylor. But it might have been humorous to see a 5'9 180 pound guy thrown like a dart at the QB. _________________ GO PACK GO!

This guy gets it. With how often we see 6-7 in the box, running should be MORE of a priority this year. I sort of want to chart the games and see how many times we see a cover 2 shell vs a single high shell. I bet its more than 90% we see cover 2. I was screaming at my TV and on here on Monday. You all saw me too. I called for MM to run it right at their ends (Clemons and Irvin when he is in). I'd want MM to run Benson all over the rook and see how he fares rushing the passer then. I'm sure Bulaga woulda loved run blocking him too. One of the big knocks on Irvin coming out and why he is just a specialist player right now. It's just a damn shame MM doesn't see it. Benson has looked pretty OK too with his chances. Nothing spectacular, but good at avoiding a loss of yards. _________________

So what happened. Last year we were able to protect Rodgers and without a running game throw all over everybody? People just adjusted? Why didn't they do that half-way thur last year. _________________
