game manager or whatever label best describes him, he's playing significantly better than last year. and that's what you want to see in a young starting QB - improvement. |
Well he couldn't get much worse then last year. He has improved be ause they dumbed down offense for him. It worked for Alex Smith and Dilfer won a Super Bowl with it.

i think the approach, be it a good one or not, is to build his confidence with the easy stuff. the MINN coaches seem to have a real hangup about Ponder's confidence, not that it appears lacking, and helping him. when we brought on McNabb last year early on, it was publicly stated it was so Ponder wouldn't be thrown to the NFL wolves right away, which would hurt his confidence.
confidence seems to be a big deal in their personnel approach. the same thing was done with our rookie kicker, who was said to have had a bad senior year due to confidence issues. how did the MINN front office deal with it?
they cut Ryan Longwell early on in the summer, saying to the rookie Walsh - you're our kicker, you don't have to worry about beating someone else out.
like i said, i don't know if it's the proper approach or not, but it seems to pervade in to their thinking.

And dont say you dominated us. We had more special teams td's than you had offensive td's and you didnt move the ball at all until we had a double digit lead. I used to like the lions, but most fans are getting way too cocky. You guys have offensive talent, but overall you are just not a good football team right now. You guys are 6-10 over your past 16 games and there is so much wrong with you team.

Interesting tidbit: the Vikings are... 6-10 over their past 16 games.
We lost a close game. We have only lost close games so far. It happens in this sport. If not for horrid ST play, we'd likely be 3-1, and this wouldn't even be a conversation. It's fine that it is, but those are the circumstances. Even with "not being a good football team right now", we lost to ST play.
I'm not worried about it. See you later in the year.
