I think this award has the potential to be pretty close. Who do you think will win it and why?
Some stats
Price 211ip 205k 2.56era 20-5rec .226baa .284obp 1.10whip 3.13xFIP 5.1war
Rodney 74.1ip 76k 0.61era 47saves .167baa .220obp 0.78whip 2.65xFIP 2.4war
Justin 238ip 239k 2.64era 17-8rec .217baa .270obp 1.06whip 3.32xFIP 6.8war
Weaver 187ip 141k 2.73era 20-4 .213baa .262obp 1.00whip 4.18xFIP 3.0war
Sale 192ip 192k 3.05era 17-8rec .235baa .291obp 1.14whip 3.25xFIP 5.0war
Felix 232ip 223k 3.06era 13-9rec .241baa .296obp 1.14whip 3.21xFIP 6.1war
Some other stats:
Run Support Average per Start
Felix 3.52
Price 4.81
Verlander 3.82
Weaver 6.0
Sale 4.76
BABIP (for hitters this is usually between .290 and .310)
Felix .308
Price .268
Verlander .267
Weaver .239
Sale .278
Rodney .222
SIERA (I suggest reading the fangraphs explanation for this stat but for reference 2.9 is considered excellent, 3.25 great, 3.75 above average, 3.9 average, 4.2 below average)
Felix 3.2
Price 3.16
Verlander 3.26
Weaver 4.00
Sale 3.25
Rodney 2.22

Brought over the posts from the aborted poll.

I think David Price should win, because he has more wins and his stats match up better than Weaver.
Verlander has had a good season but he needs to win more. _________________

I didnt realize Rodney put up a .61 ERA. I know ERA isnt a good stat, but why couldnt he do that in Detroit?
But this has gotta be JV. Price has an argument, but his biggest argument (with voters) is record, but Weve seen that the voters have valued record a lot less recently. _________________

JV is blowing the other candidate away in IP which is the deciding factor for me.
EDIT: Besides King Feliz but JV has a better ERA and strikes out more _________________

Rodney has the peripherals to back that low era up too. I included Rodney into the poll because he has the chance to break the all-time record for era with a minimum of 50ip. |

I was about to write that King Felix was pretty unlucky when it came to babip but he has had five seasons in his great career with a babip over .300, including last year.
Anybody know why? I don't see many Mariner games. Also, I noticed his GB% has declined over 11% over the past 5 years. Why? |

Ruskie, please don't use wins for a pitcher as a credible stat. It is entirely too dependent and is outdated. There are much better stats to use that better show how well a pitcher has performed in a given period of time. _________________

To be fair, Tiger fans used wins to argue that he should be the MVP last year. I came in here to say he didn't have enough wins to get the CY. It would've been a joke, but makes sense. _________________

I'm not a Tigers fan, but I'm against wins being used as a credible stat. _________________
